LoL Patch 26.7: Game-Changing QoL Update & April Fool's Chaos
Riot Games just dropped Patch 26.7, and it is a massive one. While the usual champion balancing is here—sorry to the Nami and Graves mains taking a nerf, though Kalista players will enjoy some nice buffs alongside Shyvana’s adjustments—the real story is what’s happening beneath the surface.
With the massive "League Next" overhaul looming next year, Riot is actively working to make the MOBA more player-friendly. Whether you're a casual player just enjoying the lore, or a competitive grinder who occasionally considers a reliable LoL boost to finally break out of your current Elo, this patch brings a mechanical upgrade you need to turn on immediately, alongside some truly unhinged April Fool's events.
Here is everything you need to know about League of Legends Patch 26.7.

The "Learn Spell On Cast" Setting is a Game-Changer
Let’s talk about the biggest quality-of-life upgrade in this patch. If you aren't mechanically gifted, leveling up abilities in the middle of a frantic skirmish can be a nightmare.
Historically, you had two choices when you leveled up: awkwardly drag your mouse away from the action to click the little level-up arrow, or contort your hand to hold down Ctrl while pressing your ability key. The Ctrl method is definitely better, but it’s still clunky for newer players.
Enter the new "Learn Spell On Cast" setting.
When enabled, you no longer need the Ctrl key. If you hit level two during the laning phase and suddenly find yourself getting ganked, you can just tap the key for your unlearned escape ability. It won't cast the spell on that first press, but it will instantly unlock it, allowing you to react instinctively to whatever is happening on your screen.
A quick warning, though: If you are a notorious button-masher, be careful. Because this setting also works for upgrading already-learned abilities, spamming your keys during a chaotic team fight right as you level up might result in putting a point into the wrong skill. ARAM players starting with three skill points, consider yourselves warned!

Pure Chaos on the Unranked Rift
If you need a break from the ranked grind, Riot has injected pure, unadulterated chaos into unranked Summoner's Rift to celebrate April Fool's. You'll have to play it yourself to catch every single weird interaction, but here are a few of the wildest features currently live:
- Dearest Karthus: Dying now comes with a random chance to trigger a Karthus ultimate against the enemy team. Yes, really.
- Loot Goblin Minions: Keep an eye out for "shiny" minions and monsters. When killed, they drop gold coins that absolutely anyone on either team can scoop up.
- RPG Item Rarities: Completed items now have a chance to randomly roll as Uncommon, Rare, Mythic, or Legendary. If you get lucky, your item gets a shiny border and a slight stat bump.
- Retro Items & Hats: Classic GP5 (gold per 5 seconds) items are back, which can be built into the Lucky Urf Statue. You can also earn hats by getting takedowns, and you might even spot a few minions running around in disguises.
Hextech Chest Superfans, This is For You
Finally, for the cosmetic collectors out there, Riot added a quirky little limited-time bundle. If you have 250 RP burning a hole in your pocket, you can grab the Hextech Fan Bundle. It comes with a Hextech Chest, a Key, and the highly specific "I <3 Hextech Chests" title so you can let the lobby know where your true loyalties lie.
Patch 26.7 is a perfect blend of making the game more accessible while leaning heavily into the ridiculous fun that makes League so great. The new casting setting alone is going to save countless players from giving up early first bloods. So, before you dive back into the ranked queues with a Challenger professional—or before you look into professional LoL boosting to salvage your season’s MMR—take a few unranked games to enjoy the shiny loot and random Karthus ults.
