Locke Arrives in Patch 26.13 as LoL's Newest Burst Assassin

Riot Games has officially confirmed the identity of the next champion coming to the League of Legends roster. Named Locke, this upcoming character is designed as a high-burst assassin who relies heavily on setup and precise execution. Announced by Riot developers Meddler and Pabro during a Dev Update, Locke is scheduled to arrive in Patch 26.13, bringing a fresh layer of mechanical depth to the mid lane and jungle pools.

Locke's Kit and Gameplay Style

Unlike some straightforward assassins who can simply jump in and secure a quick elimination, Locke operates on conditional damage. According to the developers, players who take the time to prepare their engagement will find immense reward in his high-damage windows. Conversely, attempting to initiate without the proper setup will likely result in a quick defeat. This design philosophy places Locke in a similar category to high-skill champions like Zed or Akali, where the gap between casual players and highly skilled mains is substantial.

Because of this steep learning curve, the initial weeks of Locke's release are expected to be somewhat chaotic in ranked queues. Whenever a highly technical champion is introduced, win rates in solo queue often fluctuate dramatically. Players who want to safeguard their matchmaking rating during this volatile period need to start learning the meta or get a LoL booster to Duo Queue with, to avoid the initial wave of teammates locked into learning the new champion.

When is Locke's Release Date in LoL?

The new AP Assassin, Locke, will be released on June 24, alongside Patch 26.13. You can expect no downtime between patches, but the update might be a heavier download due to the amount of content coming to boost League of Legends.

Locke's debut in Patch 26.13 will also feature a launch skin from the popular High Noon line. He will share this thematic release with Akshan, who is also receiving a High Noon skin in the same update. This cosmetic choice suggests that Riot has strong confidence in Locke's aesthetic appeal and potential popularity within the community.

Prior to Patch 26.13, several other significant content updates are scheduled to arrive. In Patch 26.12, players can expect the Sinful Shores skin line for Hwei and Brand, along with a Prestige edition for LeBlanc. This patch will also introduce an overhaul to ARAM: Mayhem. Riot is removing the traditional Trait system and replacing it with an Augment system, which includes unique Ability Augments. One example shared by the developers includes Blitzcrank being able to hook multiple targets at the same time, which is sure to alter the dynamic of the casual game mode.

New Content Updates

Following the High Noon release, the skin pipeline transitions into the Broken Covenant skin theme, featuring new cosmetics for Aurora, Shen, and Jhin, with Jhin's skin serving as the MSI revenue-share cosmetic. Later in the summer, players can look forward to the 2025 Worlds Winner skins and the announcement of Victorious Rengar as the seasonal reward. The victorious skin for the new season will also be hitting the servers right after the end of the ranked season, so it's time to guarantee you get it with a LoL boosting service; otherwise, you'll never get the chance to claim it again.

Finally, Riot is testing a new Ranked 5s queue. This system allows premade five-stacks to compete during specific, scheduled time slots to ensure high-quality matchmaking. While it remains an experimental feature rather than a permanent addition, it represents a notable step forward for organized team competition in League of Legends.
