Returning to Chengdu after more than a decade, the CS2 event attracted a massive audience, peaking at over 330,000 viewers. Fans from China and beyond filled the Chengdu Performing Arts Centre over three days of Playoff action, soaking in the live competition.

The tournament kicked off on April 8th with the Group Stage, featuring a talented lineup of broadcast talent, including UK-based casters Ne0kai, LucyLuce, BDog, Skriv, and more. Sixteen teams were divided into two groups of eight, with the top teams from each bracket advancing to the Playoffs.

In Group A, the German CS2 powerhouse Mouz clinched the top spot in the upper bracket, dropping just one game in the Semifinals against Furia Esports. They were quickly named the favorites to win the tournament, a motivational boost that made a huge difference. Team Liquid secured the second spot in the upper bracket, while G2 Esports outplayed Heroic in the lower bracket Final to secure third place and a spot in the Playoffs.

Group B witnessed the dominance of Astralis, the reigning CS:GO IEM Beijing 2019 Champions, as they swept through the upper bracket undefeated. Virtus.pro claimed the second spot, while FaZe Clan delivered a stellar performance in the lower bracket, securing third place and advancing to the Playoffs.

After a Cinderella-story run through the Playoffs, both FaZe Clan reached Mouz in the Grand Final, knocking out every opponent along the way. Their last encounter dated back to the CS2 IEM Katowice 2024 semi-final, where FaZe Clan emerged victorious with a decisive 2-0 win, leaving Mouz eager for redemption.

The second game followed a similar pattern, with FaZe Clan leading 8-4 at halftime once again. Despite Mouz's resilience, FaZe Clan maintained their dominance, securing a convincing 13-6 win and ultimately claiming the best-of-three victory, clinching the title of Counter-Strike 2 Champions at IEM Chengdu 2024.

Helvijs ‘broky’ Saukants was named EPT DHL MVP for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament, particularly in the Grand Final.

For FaZe Clan, this triumph is a significant milestone in the 2024 season, marking their first major victory after an impressive run in 2022 and 2023. During these previous seasons, FaZe Clan clinched several prestigious CS:GO tournaments, including an Intel Grand Slam, solidifying their status as one of the top contenders in the CS2 esports scene.
