Apex Legends: Octane Heirloom Revealed in Inner Beast Collection Event
The success of Apex Legends caught Respawn Entertainment off guard, surpassing expectations with 1 million players within the first 24 hours of its February 4, 2019 release. The game's popularity continued to soar, hitting 25 million players within the first week and 50 million in the initial month. Although Respawn kept boosting these numbers with new content, with the player count reaching 130 million players by 2022, the figure is expected to be significantly higher now.
In a surprising announcement on April 14, 2021, Respawn revealed that Apex Legends had reached a milestone of 100 million players. The game's availability on Steam and the Nintendo Switch fueled this surge. According to EA's earnings call in February 2022, there was a more than 30% year-over-year increase in monthly active players in Apex during Q3. |
With this robust player base, Respawn is set to constantly introduce new game modes, collections, and Legends. In testament to this, the Inner Beast collection event, the first for Apex Legends Season 20, has arrived with a bundle of new content. The event introduces a fresh Takeover Limited Time Mode, a recolor for Octane's butterfly knife heirloom, and a huge array of new skins.
The focal point of the Inner Beast event is the addition of a new mode titled "The Hunt," where players are assigned a specific rival squad to track and eliminate. This incredible new game mode adds an extra layer of strategy to the Apex Legends experience, as well as something it never had before: the possibility of a truce between teams who are not rivals.
New Takeover Mode: The Hunt
In "The Hunt," squads have the option to pick up “datapads” that designate and track a targeted rival squad. The enemy squad is randomly chosen, and once in proximity (70m), they are alerted to the pursuing squad's presence. A successful hunt rewards the players with a boost, while failure grants the hunted team the bonus reward.
Inner Beast Collection Skins
The Inner Beast event introduces a striking orange and purple theme for its legendary skins. Recolored legendaries are available for Octane, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Caustic, Rampart, and Loba. These skins, though recolored, maintain the captivating design that Apex Legends enthusiasts have come to appreciate.
Octane Heirloom Recolor
Octane was already set to take center stage in the new season after the dramatic finish to Season 19’s “Kill Code” with a recolor of his butterfly knife heirloom. The typically green knife is getting an eye-catching orange makeover named “Octane's Prototype.” This recolor is the reward for completing the entire collection.
To boost engagement from players, the event includes a reward track that players can progress through, culminating in a Vantage skin at the track's end.
