Crazy Raccoon's Prodigal Son, Medusa, Leaves the Team Again
The super-star VALORANT player, An "Medusa" Min-cheol, just announced that he’s taking a break from his competitive journey, announcing a hiatus from active play while maintaining ties with the Crazy Raccoon organisation through streaming activities but leaving the competitive Valorant scene.
Despite stepping back from the official roster, Medusa, a vital member since the very beginning of Crazy Raccoon's VALORANT lineup in 2020, expressed openness to potential offers during this break, emphasising his continued commitment to the gaming community.
The Valorant community is divided, as half of us expected Medusa to stick to Crazy Raccoons after he returned from REJECT to boost his original squad again and are shocked at his availability to change sides again, while the rest want him to move on to a different squad.
The Break Announcement
Medusa's decision to take a break from competitive play comes after being an integral part of Crazy Raccoon's core since their inaugural venture into VALORANT. The 22-year-old, previously associated with competitive Fortnite under T1, has been a consistent force in the Japanese VALORANT scene. Notably, Medusa temporarily departed from Crazy Raccoon in 2022 to join REJECT before making a triumphant return to his original team in the current season.
Despite experiencing a lot of success in 2021 with Crazy Raccoon attending multiple international tournaments, the team has faced challenges in replicating those achievements in the following years. Even with Medusa's return this season, the team secured a second-place finish in VCL Japan Split 1 and a fourth-place finish in the subsequent split, falling short of their earlier accomplishments.
Medusa's Statement
In a candid announcement on Instagram, Medusa shared his plans for the season, explaining that he would be taking a break from Valorant competitive gaming with the Raccoons. He hinted at a potential return if he finds a team that aligns with his goals, emphasising his interest in boosting a roster with like-minded teammates. Throughout his hiatus, Medusa intends to continue streaming, ensuring his continued association with Crazy Raccoon on a different level.
Impact on Crazy Raccoon
With Medusa stepping back, Yusuke "neth" Matsuda becomes the sole remaining member of the original Crazy Raccoon lineup formed in 2020. The current roster comprises Ibuki "Meiy" Seki, Souta "popogachi" Morita, and Akatsuki "makiba" Miyamoto. Coach "NorthernLights" assists Moon "Astell" Ji-won, who serves as the head coach. The organisation is expected to unveil its plans for the upcoming season in the following weeks or months. |
Medusa's decision to take a temporary break from competitive play marks a significant moment for both him and Crazy Raccoon. As the player explores new opportunities, the organisation will navigate this transition and formulate plans for the next chapter. Despite the shift, Medusa's continued involvement through streaming ensures that fans can stay connected with the player during this pivotal phase in his gaming career.
