EDward Gaming have secured their place in Valorant history by becoming the first Chinese team to win the prestigious Valorant Champions title. The Road to Victory

EDward Gaming’s journey to the top was anything but easy. After a stumble in the Winners Match of Group D against G2 Esports, the team bounced back with determination. They powered through the competition, defeating teams like Paper Rex, Trace Esports, Sentinels, and Leviatán to earn their spot in the grand final.

The Underdogs

Team Heretics, on the other hand, had their own ups and downs. Despite a strong start by claiming the first seed in Group B with wins against FunPlus Phoenix and Gen.G Esports, they were sent to the Lower Bracket after a 0-2 loss to Leviatán. But the European squad wasn't ready to give up. They clawed their way back with victories over DRX and Sentinels, setting the stage for an epic showdown in the finals.

The Grand Final Showdown

The grand final series was a rollercoaster of emotions. EDward Gaming started strong, using their two-ban advantage to remove Icebox and Ascent from the map pool. However, Team Heretics struck first with a dominant 13-6 victory on Haven. EDward Gaming quickly responded with a crushing 13-4 win on Sunset and followed it up with a 13-9 victory on Lotus.

Just when it seemed like EDward Gaming had the series in the bag, Team Heretics fought back on Bind, forcing a fifth and final map. Despite their best efforts, Team Heretics couldn’t complete the comeback, as EDward Gaming closed out the series with a 13-9 win on Abyss, a map they controlled from start to finish.

A Record-Breaking Performance

One of the standout moments of the series was Zheng "ZmjjKK" Yongkang’s incredible performance. He made history by becoming the first player in Valorant’s competitive scene to rack up 111 kills in a BO5 series. His stellar gameplay was instrumental in boosting EDward Gaming to victory.

Adding to the fairytale ending, S1Mon, who joined EDward Gaming just a month before the tournament, found himself lifting the Valorant Champions trophy early in his career. This victory is a huge milestone for the Chinese esports industry, boosting their reputation and proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the global Valorant community.

VCT Champions 2024

With EDward Gaming's victory, the Pacific region remains the only one yet to claim a Valorant Champions title, as EMEA, Americas, and China have now all taken home the trophy, despite China adding a salary cap for Valorant pro-players. The question on everyone’s mind is: will the Pacific region finally get their chance next year? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—Valorant’s competitive scene is heating up, and every region is looking to boost their standing in the next tournament.

EDward Gaming’s win is more than just a trophy; it’s a statement. They’ve proven that with hard work, strategy, and a little bit of magic, anything is possible. As the Valorant scene continues to grow, we can expect even more intense competition, and we’re all here for it.
