After being demoted in 2024, DSG's Valorant team will have to qualify again in order to compete in NA Challengers
The popular Twitch streamer's squad, Disguised Gaming, was eliminated from the NA Challengers League after losing 0-2 to MAD Lions in the lowest bracket of the Play-In Relegation Tournament.
After the most recent defeat, Disguised's losing run now stands at 11 losses in a row. The club had a promising 2-1 record to start the Challengers League, but it soon fell into a slump from which it was unable to break.
Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker was signed by Disguised ahead of Split 2 in order to boost the chances of the team remaining in the higher ranks of the tournament; however, the former OpTic Gaming star's addition had minimal impact on the team's performance. Disguised struggled in Split 2 while "yay" was on the roster, going 0-5 and ending up in the relegation round, when only two of the four teams managed to stay in the league. Despite the huge reception, Whiteaker was unable to live up to everyone's expectations.
On June 4, Disguised fell to the bottom bracket of the competition after losing to OREsports 2-0. With time running out, the squad once again failed to impress against the MAD Lions, who defeated them 13-6 on Bind and 13-10 on Pearl.
Since signing "yay", who averaged a poor 0.94 VLR score with the squad in the Challengers League, Disguised has suffered seven losses in a row.
Not qualifying for the NA Challengers League may represent the end of DSG's Valorant team.
Disguised will have a difficult time getting into the NA Challengers League in 2024. There will be just one open qualifier, as hundreds of teams will compete for the two available seats in the league. Compared to this year, when there were six seats available and two qualifiers, the challenge is significantly more difficult.
Toast, who witnessed the game with Tarik 'tarik' Celik, was still able to compliment his players despite the defeat.
After the match, Toast commented:
“It didn’t end the way we hoped, but I’m still very proud of what these players did in one year, (...) from zero esports team to one esports team. And maybe now back to zero esports team. It has been a ride.”
Fnatic's Captain, Boaster, is supporting Disguised's team as they lose their spot in Challengers.
Given that there are just two qualifying positions available in 2024, Disguised's return to the Challengers League will be difficult. At the same time, the tier-two landscape is under a cloud due to the uncertainty surrounding the off-season, with many players waiting for the chance to leave their respective squads to find other opportunities.

Disguised Toast received some words of support from Jake 'Boaster' Howlett, to boost his mood after the team's relegation, who suggested that the best thing to do right now is to concentrate on the advantages of this experience.
On Twitter, Boaster posted:
“You’ve got to have a low point in order to learn and then be able to stop it from happening in the future, (...) You’ve gotten yours early which will be a blessing in disguise in the long run! Everyone should take this experience and remember the good things that happened, too.”
Boaster steered Fnatic to glory at VCT LOCK//IN earlier this year, achieving the kind of global triumph he had been striving for since the beginning of his Valorant career. In addition, his team is thought to be among the favorites for the VCT Masters Tokyo, which starts on June 11.
Disguised Toast is still keeping his plans for DSG's Valorant team under wraps. The streamer from Offline TV revealed his own League of Legends team earlier this month. They will compete in the NA Challengers League (NACL) if it's not cancelled by Riot.
We'll have to wait and see what the future has in store for Disguised Gaming.
