August 08, 2023

VCT Champions 2023 is here, and the greatest Valorant players are already providing some of the best gameplay this year.

Even if they are arranged at random, the first games of any tournament are the ones that fans look forward the most.

Starting out an event of this magnitude is not only a big responsibility in terms of results, since it can boost you to a good starting spot, but also as an entertainer, since a huge audience is watching!

FUT Esports and Evil Geniuses already left FunPlus Phoenix and T1 behind in Group B, meanwhile, DRX started the competition like champions, winning two matches and standing in first place in Group D, showing that they really are the future of the Korean Valorant scene, with Natus Vincere in second place. Surprisingly, LOUD has had zero victories so far.

So far, day 2 has already been a shocker! The first game of the day was completely one-sided. FUT Esports thoroughly dominated T1 and demolished their rivals with a 13:4 in the first map, Pearl. This is especially upsetting for T1, considering the map was chosen by them.

This one-sidedness persisted throughout the game. T1 didn't manage to show up, and many fans have remarked on their poor performance. Hopefully, the experience will help boost their performance for the rest of the tournament, although their journey in the VCT Champions may be over before it ever started.

As for the second matchup of the day, both games concluded with a score of 13:8 for Evil Geniuses. Surprisingly, FPX chose a two-controller team competition with Astra and Omen. Unfortunately, this method did not work for them.

Both teams won six rounds in the first half of the first game on Ascent, which was perfectly balanced. However, when it was EG's chance to attack, they quickly racked up points. Only twice could FPX successfully protect the locations, and as a consequence, they were defeated.

DRX VS Natus Vincere was a match for the ages!

This is DRX's second victory at this year's Champions, but it did not come easy! We had two maps that went to overtime, and even in the single game that didn't, the fight lasted until the last possible second.

NAVI chose Bind for the opening game. They enjoyed an eight-win streak in the first half until being stopped by DRX. Then, in the second half, DRX demonstrated their skill by efficiently protecting their positions. This game was controlled by defenders, as both sides scored the majority of their points with them. Ultimately, DRX decided the contest for themselves during overtime, and it paid off.

NAVI triumphed in the second game on Split after going all-out in the second half and successfully tipping the scales in their favor.

We had a face-off on Lotus for the night's last game. It was close throughout the entire game, and any side could have won. Both teams even scored the same number of points in each half! But DRX did prevail in both overtimes, taking home the win.

While it's hard to say who's the favorite so far, there are some surprises in the competition, and we can't wait to see what happens next! Stay tuned for more!
