TFT Patch 17.3: Morgana Rework and the End of the Reroll Meta
Teamfight Tactics players have anticipated a significant shift in the competitive landscape, and Patch 17.3 finally delivers. For the past few weeks, the game heavily favored low-cost reroll strategies. Players found themselves forced into building the same repetitive boards just to survive the early rounds. Fortunately, the latest update addresses these frustrations by rebalancing units across every tier and introducing a highly requested frontline rework. If you have been struggling to climb the ladder, mastering this specific update will serve as a natural way to boost for your win rate in TFT Set 17.
The End of Low-Cost Dominance
The previous meta heavily rewarded players who stayed at lower levels to three-star cheap units. Characters like Leona and Teemo previously avoided major nerfs, allowing them to dominate lobbies alongside the incredibly strong Primordian trait. Seeing opponents constantly secure early three-star team comps caused plenty of frustration for players trying to play flexibly.
The development team is now taking action to reduce this early tempo. Overperforming units including Briar, Twisted Fate, Teemo, Akali, and Bel'Veth have all received noticeable damage reductions. Leona and Jax will also no longer offer the same impenetrable defense. These adjustments ensure that a fully capped Level 9 board will actually overpower a collection of low-cost units.
Morgana Becomes a Premium Frontline Option
|
One of the most surprising changes in this update involves Morgana. The developers rarely alter a unit's cost in the middle of a set. However, a severe lack of viable four-cost tanks prompted a necessary adjustment. Morgana is now a four-cost Magic Tank. While in her Dark Form, she provides essential durability for your team. She continues to deal ability power damage to the three closest enemies, but she now also heals the two closest injured allies. This dual utility helps your frontline survive significantly longer. Because she lacks traits that would complicate existing synergies, she fits perfectly into this new defensive role. |

Mid-Game Shifts and Five-Cost Improvements
With the early game slowed down, reaching Level 9 is no longer an impossible task. To reward players who manage their economy well, several five-cost units received substantial improvements. Shen now scales much better with health, allowing him to act as a durable bruiser. Sona also hits much harder, making the late-game transition far more rewarding.
In the mid-game, three-cost and four-cost units are experiencing a major shift in priority. The popular Master Yi, Kindred, Corki, and Riven boards have dominated Level 8 play for a while. To counter this, Master Yi's healing and the Marauder attack damage bonuses were reduced. Meanwhile, ability power casters like Aurelion Sol, Karma, Leblanc, and Nami received buffs to increase their mystic damage output. For those who prefer three-cost rerolls, the Diana and Miss Fortune combination is receiving buffs that could make it a top-tier strategy, especially since the Serpent Stargazer Lulu variant was weakened.
Traits, Augments, and Fair Play
Vertical traits are getting some valuable improvements. The Anima Squad trait now grants loot after every single combat rather than just after wins. You will still need an Emblem and a Fiora to activate the full potential, but the consistent cash-outs make the strategy highly viable. The Fountain Stargazer has also returned, providing maximum health restoration every two seconds along with bonus stats for units placed in specific hexes.

On the augment front, players can expect four new trait-focused options and a balanced version of Heart of the Swarm. More importantly, the developers implemented rules to prevent hyper-synergistic snowballing. You will no longer see combinations like getting double duplicators right before a Heroic Grab Bag. This change ensures a fairer experience for everyone in the lobby. Sometimes a meta feels so unbalanced that the best way to secure your desired rank is TFT boosting, but these thoughtful systemic changes will also help you in the current solo queue environment.
Patch 17.3 brings exactly what the game needed to restore strategic variety. By toning down cheap reroll strategies and giving players a reliable four-cost tank in Morgana, the path to Level 9 feels rewarding again. Adapting to these changes early will give you a significant advantage in your upcoming matches.
