Worlds 2023 Play-Ins – Day 5: Only the Strong can Move Ahead!
Day 5 of League of Legends Worlds 2023 play-ins featured four intense matches: LOUD vs. GAM Esports and CTBC Flying Oysters vs. Team BDS, with only two teams securing their spot on the last stage of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Play-ins.
LOUD vs. GAM Esports
Game 1
LOUD initially looked strong, establishing an early lead and gold advantage by invading GAM Levi's jungle. However, they made a costly mistake by engaging in skirmishes against GAM Esports, a team known for their expertise in this aspect of the game. A mid-lane teamfight went sour for LOUD, allowing Levi to secure a double kill and recover from his weak early-game with a huge gold boost. GAM displayed their consistency and skill, orchestrating teamfights to position Slayder for success. Slayder's remarkable performance carried GAM to victory, and LOUD had no more chances to turn the tide.
Game 2
GAM Esports showcased their dominance in this match, starting strong and maintaining control from the very beginning. A standout moment came when GAM Kiaya, playing Gnar, secured an impressive 1v2 double kill in the top lane at the 11-minute mark. The rest of the game turned into a one-sided affair as GAM claimed objectives, pushed turrets, and systematically dismantled LOUD's base. This convincing victory by GAM eliminated LOUD from Worlds 2023.
CTBC Flying Oysters vs. Team BDS
Game 1
Team BDS began the series with a well-balanced early game, focusing on securing lane priority and advantages. The key player for BDS was Crownie, whose survival was paramount in teamfights. However, CTBC Flying Oysters recognized that taking out Crownie early would lead to victory, so they continually tried to weaken him before engaging. Fortunately for BDS, Crownie's expertise with Xayah allowed him to position himself effectively. In a dramatic turn of events, BDS was on the brink of taking the Nexus turrets inside CFO's base, but a swift engage by CFO led to them eliminating the entire opposing team with minimal losses. Thanks to BDS nuc, the European squad managed to stay in the game and push again. Team BDS secured the first win after a well-timed teamfight with a Baron buff and three waves of super minions.
Game 2
CTBC Flying Oysters took an early lead in the second game, as BDS started out way below the expectations of their EMEA fans, who kept chanting and boosting the team's morale. However, as the game progressed, Team BDS' superior coordination as a team turned the tide. Despite BDS Adam's lackluster performance in the top lane, the mid-laner, nuc, stepped up, creating the perfect plays his squad needed to remove CFO from the map. A decisive Baron buff allowed Team BDS to snowball, forcing CFO to retreat and defend. Team BDS emerged victorious, sending Flying Oysters home from the tournament.
Our MVP for Day 5 is GAM Kiaya, who showcased a flawless performance on K'Sante. Let's see what he brings to the table in the future! With a best-of-5 against the dark horse PSG Talon in their way, Team BDS will have to show up in order to advance to the Swiss Stage. Meanwhile, Team Whales will face GAM Esports for their own shot at the spotlight. |
