The League of Legends Worlds 2023 Anthem GODS Is a Smash Hit!
Wake up, Summoners! The League of Legends Worlds 2023 theme is finally here, and it's an absolute banger! Riot Games has teamed up with the amazing Korean girl group NewJeans to drop the epic new anthem for the League of Legends World Championship, along with an amazing cinematic showcasing the 'Worlds Deft vs. Faker lore.'
'GODS' is available right now on all your favorite streaming platforms and YouTube along with the explosive music video that goes with it. This song is set to be the soundtrack of the entire League of Legends World Championship, and we're calling it now: a live performance is going to blow the roof off the venue at some point! |
After last year's anthem was universally considered a failure despite the high expectations everyone had, League of Legends players were left bitter and wanting more. I mean, Lil Nas X was behind it, so at the very least, we expected a smash hit with an action-packed cinematic.
Shortly after, the Season 2023 cinematic was launched, and it too was shockingly below Riot's standards. However, recently, there have been many changes in Riot's staff and leadership, and they started listening to the community's feedback a lot more. So, everyone had their money on this theme song, and boy, oh boy, did Riot deliver.
The moment you dive into 'GODS,' you'll feel the pulse-pounding excitement that perfectly complements the high-stakes action of Worlds, and as soon as the vocals drop, you get that adrenaline boost that is sure to make the hair on your arms stand up. The song is powerful and inspiring right from the start, complemented by the spot-on lyrics. And, of course, like any good Worlds anthem, it features amazing strings and a choir backup that gives it a cinematic vibe.
Of course, it will take a couple of listens for everyone to get the lyrics engraved in their memory, but we're sure this song is going to spread like wildfire.
Now, let's talk about the video. It's clear that Riot felt they owed the players a better cinematic after opening the 2023 season with that dreadful butterfly screensaver. Let's be honest, some of the parodies were better than the original.
For 'GODS,' the League of Legends creatives picked up Deft's Cinderella story, starting way back when he was still in school with Faker, and showed us flashbacks of the Worlds Champion competing for the big cup. Clearly, they invested in boosting the production value of this cinematic because it’s way better than anything else we’ve seen this year.
First, they take us back to the 2013 SKT T1 vs. MVP Blue match, where Faker dominated as Zed. Then, to Samsung White vs. Samsung Blue in 2014, with PawN's game-breaking Jayce performance. In 2015, we witness the legendary Rekkles as Kennen, carrying Fnatic to new heights. Of course, DAMWON's Showmaker is representing 2020 as Syndra, along with Canyon's Graves. |
And finally, 2022, the year of the Alpaca, where EDG's Meiko, Gen.G's Doran, and even T1's dream team led by Faker and Keria couldn't hold back DRX and Deft from finally lifting the trophy after his fifth presence in Worlds.
Deft, Beryl, Pyosik, Kingen, and Zeka all gather in the final scene and end the video with a bang, blowing away T1 and, clearly, a lot of dust. Because something got in my eye watching that. I'm not crying, you're crying!
The League of Legends World Championship is just around the corner! Get ready for an epic showdown in South Korea, where it's going to be happening across some legendary venues. We're kicking things off at the iconic LoL Park, moving on to the KBS Arena in Seoul, and then heading to the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan for the quarter and semi-finals. The grand finale? Well, that's going to be at the spectacular Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul!
South Korea is known for having one of the most passionate fan bases in the League of Legends universe, so you better believe that these venues are going to be packed to the brim with some of the most dedicated fans you've ever seen!
Korean teams are going to be flexing their muscles on their home turf, aiming to claim that World Championship crown.
But China's also in the house, riding high after dominating the Mid-Season Invitational and carrying over some bad blood from their defeat at the 2023 Asian Games.
The European teams are gunning for a return to their former glory and once again making the LEC's name known across the world.
Meanwhile, North America's finest are itching to make their mark after a challenging year. After all, the LCS was almost completely canceled at least twice, and there have been unprecedented changes in some of the most noteworthy teams in the NA region, so no one knows what to expect.
Now, the PCS, Vietnam, Japan, Brazil, and LAN regions are also sending teams to the competition, and we all love to watch the underdogs battle it out and take down a renowned squad. After all, who can forget GAM Esports defeating Top Esports in Worlds 2022? I can still hear the crowd cheering them on!
