Riot Games Announces Project L Official Name: 2XKO

Riot Games, the mastermind behind the iconic League of Legends universe, has officially released the name of its highly anticipated 2v2 fighting game: 2XKO. This revelation follows the initial announcement in 2019, where Riot Games teased an array of projects designed to boost the League of Legends universe, and now the League of Legends community has a title to rally behind.

What is Project L: 2XKO?

Gaming titles like Tekken have become synonymous with the fighting game community, so Riot prepared Project L, now named 2XKO, to set its own unique tone. The project was initially unveiled in 2019 alongside other League-inspired titles like Arcane and Legends of Runeterra. However, the journey to 2XKO's present state has been marked by the ebb and flow of development, with Riot undergoing substantial changes, including layoffs and project streamlining.

Despite the challenges, Riot Games has periodically shared developmental updates, culminating in the game's debut hands-on experience at EVO 2023. Now, with a name and a roadmap, 2XKO is set to burn its name into the fighting game wall-of-fame.

2XKO will be a 2v2 fighter

At its core, 2XKO is a 2v2 fighter, but what sets it apart is the seamless integration of competitive and cooperative elements. Unlike traditional tag-team fighting games, such as Marvel vs. Capcom, 2XKO offers players the flexibility to engage either in cutthroat competition or collaborative gameplay. Teams can dynamically swap characters in and out of the fray, boosting the heart-pounding action with an extra layer of strategy.

As players delve into the game, they will assemble their dream team from a diverse roster of League of Legends characters.

The gameplay trailers showcase fan favorites like Ahri, Ekko, Darius, and Yasuo, each boasting abilities reminiscent of their League counterparts. Ekko manipulates time with temporal clones, while Ahri elegantly wields her characteristic orbs, bringing the essence of League into the fighting arena.

When is the official 2XKO release date?

The official name of "2XKO" was not the only revelation from Riot Games. The developers have set their sights on a 2025 release window, creating palpable anticipation within the gaming community. To bridge the gap until launch, Riot Games is gearing up to provide more hands-on demos, with EVO Japan 2024 slated for an April showcase. Furthermore, the promise of at-home playtesting by year-end signals an immersive experience for players eager to step into the 2XKO universe.

While the specifics of playtests remain undisclosed, Riot Games is opening the door for fans to be part of the game's journey from the comfort of their homes.

Where Can You Play 2XKO?

Riot Games has confirmed the multi-platform release of 2XKO, generating anticipation beyond just the game itself. Players can expect to enjoy the 2XKO experience on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Riot Games, renowned for its commitment to PC players, promised a simultaneous release across all platforms.
