G2 Esports are on a roll at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), continuing their impressive lower bracket run by eliminating Top Esports (TES) with another clean 3-0 sweep. A Hard Loss for TESAs the first LPL team eliminated on their home ground in this tournament and the first Asian team to lose a best-of-5 to an LEC team in five years, TES views this loss as a dark moment. Now, the hopes of the LPL region rest on Bilibili Gaming. Despite being the second seed from the LPL, TES had one of the longest runs in the tournament, having started their journey from the Play-In Stage alongside T1. |
G2's Dominant Performance
TES, known for their strong lineup featuring many well-known LPL players, couldn’t find their footing against G2. The LEC champions managed to outplay TES in all three games, effectively neutralizing their strategies. A standout performance came from Rasmus “Caps” Winther, who played Tristana in all three matches and consistently dominated TES Creme in the mid-lane.
But it wasn’t just Caps who shined; the entire G2 squad performed exceptionally well. Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik was particularly impressive, demonstrating his versatility by playing champions like Camille, Twisted Fate, and K'Sante. He went toe-to-toe with TES’s top laner, Bai “369” Jia-Hao, one of the best in the role, and came out on top (pun intended).
Hans Sama Dominates the MSI
G2’s bottom-lane duo also played a crucial role in their victory. Steven “Hans Sama” Liv was a standout player, especially in the second match where his Kog'Maw racked up 12 kills, boosting G2 to a fast victory. Throughout the three games, he secured a total of 22 kills, thanks to excellent support from Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. Mikyx was phenomenal, especially as Leona, leading the assist count across all three games and working seamlessly with Hans Sama to dominate the bottom lane.
Martin “Yike” Sundelin also deserves a mention for his solid performance. Despite matching Mikyx in kill count over the series, Yike managed to keep his deaths to a minimum, dying only once in all three games. The jungler’s Ivern pick left TES confused and unable to react, leading to one of the most one-sided series in MSI history. G2 now awaits the outcome of tomorrow’s best-of-five match between T1 and Team Liquid. This match will be nail-biting for G2, as they have a chance to avenge their earlier loss to T1, the team that knocked them into the lower bracket. If Team Liquid wins, it will be only the second time they face G2 in a best-of-five, with the first encounter dating back to MSI 2019. |
G2 Esports' decisive victory over Top Esports has set the stage for an exciting semi-final in the Mid-Season Invitational. Their dominant performance was proof of their resilience and adaptability, key traits that will be crucial as they move forward in the tournament. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next match, and G2’s journey is far from over as they aim for the MSI championship.
