Counter Strike 2 confirmed?

Richard Lewis, a well-known journalist and caster in the Counter-Strike community, says he has proof from reliable sources that Valve is getting ready to release a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive soon and that a beta could come as soon as this month or in April.

The working title of this project is reportedly Counter-Strike 2, and it has reportedly been in production for some time. Lewis notes that one of the reasons the present iteration of CS:GO has been mostly neglected for some time is because Counter-Strike 2 became a priority for Valve.

Some sources claim that the Source 2 engine will power Counter-Strike 2, which should increase the optimization and graphics quality of the game. It is also claimed to have 128-tick servers, which is a measure of how quickly a game's servers can process the information, similar to Valorant.

This new version will also feature enhanced matchmaking, and it looks like Valve is hoping that this will eliminate the need for outside services to effectively pair players.

Sources say that Counter-Strike 2 is almost ready to go, but it's not clear yet how this new version will affect the maintenance and development of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and its competitive environment in the future. Lewis says that Dota 2 moved to Source 2 with a new version called Dota 2 Reborn, which ran alongside the original. The two versions eventually blended into one.

We have seen revamps done differently in the past, such as when Riot decided to boost the Summoner's Rift map with a full rework, but in this case, we're not talking about a step-by-step climb towards an improved version of the same game. We're talking about a whole new video game joining the ranks of the best games on the market!

The fact that the most recent NVIDIA drivers added support for unknown software executables dubbed "csgos2.exe" and "cs2.exe" is another piece of information that may point to the veracity of this report.

Gabe Follower 2 also says that, according to fairly reliable information, Valve has been trying to run CS:GO on Source 2 with the help of independent QA firms in the US and EU since late 2022. Though we can't vouch for it with certainty, it's good enough to mention.

However, they claim that this latest iteration will just be CS:GO Source 2, not a new game, Counter-Strike 2, or even a rebrand. And players skins are safe since the new edition will include them.

Again, it's important to be careful and wait for an official statement, but at least it doesn't look like we'll have to wait too long to find out if this is true, unlike some of the less clear reports that have been going around.
