In a thrilling conclusion to the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, Team Vitality have cemented their dominance in Counter Strike 2 (CS2) by defeating the MongolZ in a dramatic 2-1 reverse sweep. With this victory, the French powerhouse not only took home the $500,000 grand prize but also extended their legacy as the first true era-defining team in CS2.

This triumph marks Vitality’s seventh consecutive tournament win, a streak that includes some of the most prestigious titles in the CS2 calendar. Their reign is not just impressive—it’s historic.

Vitality’s CS2 Era Begins

Team Vitality’s path to dominance began in January 2025 with a major roster boost: the addition of Robin “ropz” Kool, who joined forces with superstar Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. Since then, the synergy between the team’s two aces has pushed Vitality to the top of the CS2 world.

Their 2025 resume reads like a who's who of competitive CS2:

  • IEM Katowice (Feb)
  • ESL Pro League Season 21 (Mar)
  • BLAST Open Spring (Mar)
  • IEM Melbourne (Apr)
  • BLAST Rivals Spring (May)
  • IEM Dallas (May)
  • Austin Major (Jun)

The victories in Melbourne and Dallas also helped Vitality secure the ESL Grand Slam Season 5, netting them an extra $1 million and putting them on pace for the longest match-winning streak in CS history—reaching 30 wins before it was broken.

Breaking Records, Making History

Although Vitality’s winning streak was snapped by Brazilian squad Legacy in the opening match of Stage 3, the team quickly rebounded. They rolled through Nemiga Gaming, 3DMAX, and Virtus.pro to book a ticket to the Playoffs.

From there, they dominated. Natus Vincere fell in the quarterfinals, and archrivals MOUZ were defeated in a three-map semi-final. In the finals, despite dropping the first map to the MongolZ, Vitality came back swinging with two dominant maps to clinch the title.

With this win, in-game leader Dan “apEX” Madesclaire now holds three Major championships—two of them with Vitality. ZywOo and ropz claimed their second Majors, while Shahar “flameZ” Shushan and William “mezii” Merriman celebrated their first. For mezii, the victory is especially historic—he’s now the first British player to win a CS2 Major.

The MongolZ Make History Too

Although they fell just short, the MongolZ made headlines with their incredible run. Starting from Stage 3, the team battled their way through a grueling five-round Swiss format. After a tough loss to FURIA Esports, they earned crucial victories over Team Liquid and Lynn Vision Gaming before stumbling against FaZe Clan. But the MongolZ regrouped and pulled off a clutch win over G2 Esports to reach the Playoffs.

There, they stunned the CS2 world. First, they got revenge on FaZe Clan with a sweep, then dominated paiN Gaming to earn a spot in the final. Though they didn’t walk away with the title, they did make history as the first-ever Asian team—and the youngest squad overall—to reach a CS Major grand final. Their run is already boosting the visibility of CS2 in the Asia-Pacific region, potentially inspiring a new wave of talent.

What This Win Means for the CS2 Landscape

Vitality’s continued dominance is reshaping the CS2 competitive scene. Their consistent victories and star-studded roster have set a new standard for what it means to be at the top. For aspiring teams, boosting performance isn't just about raw aim—it’s about synergy, strategy, and staying sharp under pressure.

Their ability to bounce back from setbacks and maintain momentum proves that this team isn’t just on a hot streak—they're building a legacy. As the competition heats up, other teams will need to rank up fast to challenge Vitality’s throne.

Meanwhile, the MongolZ have emerged as a genuine threat on the global stage. Their breakthrough performance has sparked excitement across Asia and proven that new contenders can rise quickly in CS2 with the right mix of talent and determination.

Looking Ahead

With half the year still to go, the race for supremacy in Counter Strike 2 is far from over. Teams like FaZe, MOUZ, and NAVI are all hungry to snap Vitality’s run and reclaim the top spot. For now, though, it’s clear—this is the Vitality era, and everyone else is chasing.

Whether you're watching to see who can break their streak or rooting for the next underdog to rise, the future of CS2 esports looks more exciting than ever.
