Counter-Strike 2 April 15 Major Update: Patch Notes

Valve has rolled out a fresh update, bringing a ton of UI enhancements and bug fixes to Counter-Strike 2 following a recent surge in player numbers after the PGL Copenhagen Major.

The latest update focuses on addressing several bugs and boosting the CS2 user interface. The community generally welcomes any update, but for a long time, fans eagerly anticipated a major update that addressed some of the game's most pressing issues.

Since its launch in September last year, Counter-Strike 2 has gathered a huge player base, with over 900,000 concurrent Steam users in the past month alone. Despite its popularity, the game still faces technical challenges with every patch, such as stability issues, limited support for community servers, and the lack of official casual modes that we used to have in CS:GO. While Valve likely has plans to address these concerns in future CS2 updates, the latest patch primarily tackles the technical issues.

The April 16 update for Counter-Strike 2 addresses two major bugs: one involving the bomb disappearing from the radar and another causing crashes in Workshop tools during map compilation. Additionally, the update will boost CS2’s UI, including the ability to select the sticker icon beneath a weapon for scraping or removal of stickers and the option to delete empty storage units with assigned labels. Despite being a minor update, it weighs in at just over 30 MB.

The response from the Counter-Strike community to this patch was somewhat predictable, with many expressing disappointment through the classic empty fridge GIF. Given the low frequency and unpredictability of major updates for CS2.

While major updates for Counter-Strike 2 have been rare and difficult to anticipate thus far, the game's legacy as the successor to one of the greatest FPS titles in gaming history, CS2, ensures that it will continue to receive important updates in the future. It's just a matter of when and how frequently they'll arrive. Valve hasn’t been particularly open about patches and changes for their new title, as evidenced by the lack of information about ranked resets.

When will the CS2 Season end?
Valve has not announced the end of the first Counter-Strike 2 season yet. However, we will keep you updated on every leak and official date in real time!

After the initial hype surrounding the launch of CS2 subsided, the franchise experienced a decline in player numbers, primarily because CS2 replaced CS:GO, rendering some of the older game's beloved features inaccessible. However, player numbers have steadily started to ramp up again, and currently, the game is experiencing its healthiest player base since its release in September 2023.

The Copenhagen Major, which took place in late March and created a lot of excitement around the game, is partially responsible for the recent player number boost.

After hitting the top charts on Twitch, Helldivers 2 briefly overtook CS2 in Steam's concurrent user rankings in February, causing a temporary dip in player numbers. However, Valve's iconic FPS has since reclaimed its position at the top of Steam's charts, often reaching a daily peak of over 1.5 million users in the past month.

So, to close off the patch notes for Counter-Strike 2's April 16 update:

  • Valve fixed an issue where the bomb could occasionally disappear from the radar.
  • Users can now scrape or remove stickers by selecting the sticker icons under the weapon.
  • Users can delete empty storage units that have an assigned label.
  • Valve solved crashes in Workshop tools when compiling maps containing instances.
