Game Breaking Update Resets Thousands of Apex Legends Player Accounts
An update to Apex Legends has caused chaos among the players after everyone who logged in for an entire day lost all their account levels and months of battle pass progress. Respawn has reassured players that steps have been taken to prevent further account wipes, but those already affected were left waiting for further updates to find out if they’re even getting their Apex Legends Season 20 progress back or not! Unfortunately, this was not an April Fools' joke, despite the timing.
The community is in a panic due to widespread reports of account resets in Apex Legends. In response, Respawn issued an update aimed at preventing any additional players from experiencing this huge bug. However, those who have lost the progress they worked so hard for during Season 20, either by grinding for weeks on end or boosting their Apex Legends account, are still awaiting feedback on the situation. Respawn posted a tweet addressing the situation:

During the first day of the latest patch, players logging into Apex Legends received a message announcing the launch of the "cross progression system," a feature that has been available for several months. After the redundant notification, many players discovered that large portions of their account progress had been reset, with some even experiencing the loss of all their progress. Most players only lost the progress made and content purchased during Season 20, while others had their Apex Legends accounts wiped clean.
While some players already claim they aren’t even going to login until EA restores the lost content, others are already grinding again or boosting their Apex Legends accounts to save time and money.
The issue has become so widespread that the Apex Legends subreddit has been locked down to control the number of posts from panicked players, which was preventing r/ApexLegends from working properly. Discussion is now confined to a few megathreads where players are sharing their frustrations over their lost progress. While the specifics vary, reports typically involve the loss of account levels, complete wipes of battle pass progress, and even the insurmountable loss of valuable heirlooms.
It has been a challenging few weeks for the battle royale title, with a major Apex Legends tournament marked by mid-game hacks, prompting Respawn to issue a "layered series of updates" to boost player protection. During the recent Apex Legends regional finals, two professional players, Genburten and ImperialHal, fell victim to hacks right in the midst of the competition. Genburten received the ability to see through walls and terrain, while ImperialHal was provided with an aimbot by the hacker. |
After this chaotic scene in the ALGS, the "Anti-Cheat Police Department" voluntary cheat watchdog group has advised players to steer clear of any EA games until the Easy Anti-Cheat system receives proper updates. With Apex Legends players understandably furious about losing their Season 20 progress, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment face a daunting task of navigating this situation without incurring huge financial losses.
For now, players can safely log back in and start grinding again if they can trust EA’s word. Stay tuned for further updates on the ongoing situation with Apex Legends.
