Apex Legends to Test High-Tier Solo Queue Ranked Mode
Respawn Entertainment is preparing for a major test for players in the top tier of the Apex Legends Ranked environment. From June 9 to June 23, the developer will implement a temporary solo queue-only restriction for players in the highest competitive tiers. This experimental period aims to address ongoing issues with lobby fairness and competitive integrity at the top of the ladder.

During this two-week test window, any player who has reached Diamond, Master, or Apex Predator rank will enter the matchmaking pool alone. The option to queue up as a premade duo or a full three-person squad will be disabled for these tiers. Respawn hopes that by isolating high-tier players in a solo environment, they can gather critical data on how squad coordination affects rank distribution and matchmaking balance.
Matchmaking in High-Skill Apex Legends Lobbies
The decision comes after seasons of feedback from solo players who frequently find themselves matched against highly coordinated, pre-made professional and semi-professional squads. For a solo player, competing against a coordinated three-stack at the Diamond level can feel incredibly punishing. Of course, a large number of players aren't even willing to participate in the nightmarish climb from the lower ranks to Diamond and above, and that's where an Apex Legends boost works its magic, allowing anyone to reach these competitive brackets without having to waste time grinding through elo hell. By removing premade groups, Respawn aims to create a more level playing field where individual skill and adaptability are tested, meaning Apex boosters will be able to get you to the rank you need to be in a lot faster than before.
Additionally, this change could change how the community views account progression. High-level matchmaking has often been criticized for allowing players to be carried into ranks they might not belong in. This experiment may temporarily disrupt the traditional Apex Legends matchmaking, but regardless of if you're boosting your account to reach the Apex ranks, or doing it by yourself, the experience of playing in higher ranks will be free of many issues that plagued it in the past.

Community Reactions and the Future of Ranked
The announcement has sparked a variety of reactions within the Apex Legends community. Solo players have largely welcomed the news, viewing it as a necessary step toward fairer matches where personal performance dictates success. A large number of players are already excited for the change, especially those who thrive on supportive picks like Lifeline and know that they'll encounter teams lacking in Legends who are able to sustain their squad. On the other side, players who primarily enjoy the game as a team experience with friends are frustrated by the temporary limitation, arguing that the game is inherently designed around coordinated team play.
This trial is one of several matchmaking adjustments listed on EA's official forums. Depending on the results of the two-week experiment, Respawn may use the data collected to reshape how Ranked lobbies function in future seasons.
