Over 47,000 LoL Cheaters Banned Since Vanguard Launch

Riot Games revealed their most recent achievement in a recent League of Legends developer update: they have banned over 47,000 cheaters from the game since the launch of the Vanguard anti-cheat system six weeks ago. This move has drastically improved the in-game environment, boosting the integrity of the competitive scene.

Vanguard's Impact

Riot's controversial anti-cheat system, Vanguard, has been a staple in Valorant for years and made its debut in League of Legends in early May. Despite initial concerns about the level of access Vanguard has to players' PCs, the results speak for themselves. Vanguard has banned over 47,000 scripters and reduced bot hours from over a million daily to just 50,000, while human hours have stayed consistent.

These impressive stats suggest that many of the vocal critics of Vanguard may have had something to hide. The community's gameplay experience has undoubtedly received a significant boost, with fewer bots and cheaters disrupting the game.

Leadership Changes and New Initiatives

The developer update also introduced Paul “Pabro” Bellezza as the new executive producer for League of Legends. Bellezza, one of the original developers of LoL, expressed his excitement about returning to the game. He has previously worked on Valorant, Wild Rift, and Riot’s animated series, which will end with Arcane Season 2 later this year.

"I am thrilled to be returning to work on League of Legends as its executive producer. I am deeply honored and ecstatic to be coming home to the game I know and love in order to help make amazing experiences for you all. I am at your service. For now, I will be busy catching up on all things League. See ya next time, Summoners…oh wait…uh….we changed that. See ya players!"

The discontinuation of champion roadmaps, now shared through future developer updates, was one of Bellezza's first major announcements. Additionally, the team is experimenting with a new system for Malphite’s visual update, promising a fresh take on the beloved champion’s design.

Upcoming Game Changes and Events

Among the upcoming changes is a new PvE game mode called Swarm, set to arrive in July. This mode was teased earlier this year and has generated considerable excitement among players. Furthermore, the team will be making adjustments to areas affected by the recent champion mastery update to better align with their vision.

The developer update also brought significant news for the professional League of Legends scene. Starting in 2025, the American pro leagues LCS, CBLOL, and LLA will merge into one league, known as the Americas League. Similarly, leagues in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao, Japan, Vietnam, and Oceania will consolidate. Riot Games' Esports division will also introduce an extra international event in March 2025, though they have not yet shared specific details.

Vanguard Restriction System

The recent League of Legends developer update has brought a wave of positive changes and exciting announcements. The introduction of the Vanguard anti-cheat system has resulted in the banning of over 47,000 cheaters, significantly boosting the game's integrity. With Paul “Pabro” Bellezza as the new executive producer, players can look forward to innovative updates and improvements.

The upcoming PvE mode Swarm, the new visual system for Malphite, and the restructuring of pro leagues are just a few of the exciting developments on the horizon. Riot Games continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the League of Legends experience for its vast player base. As the game evolves, the community eagerly anticipates the positive impacts these changes will bring.
