LoL Patch 14.8: MSI 2024, Mordekaiser Buff, Blood Moon Skinline

League of Legends Patch 14.8 is on the horizon, and it will be the official 2024 Mid-Season Invitational patch. Riot Games has pulled out all the stops, introducing big adjustments to nearly 25 champions, making this update a game changer for Season 14.

MSI 2024

League Patch 14.8, designated as the official 2024 MSI update, will set the stage for the second biggest competitive Esports event in LoL history, right after Worlds, featuring top-tier teams like G2 Esports, Team Liquid, and Gen.G. This year, the MSI tournament will take place in Chengdu. As our favorite pro-players prepare for international glory, Riot Games wants to make sure that the gameplay mechanics remain dynamic and engaging, with buffs, nerfs, and reworks. The patch's biggest change, however, is a gargantuan Mordekaiser boost, which will bring him out of the shadow realm and back to competitive League of Legends gaming.

This update isn't just about champion adjustments; Riot Games is also boosting neutral objectives like Voidgrubs and Baron Nashor to promote a more balanced and challenging experience. As for the champions themselves, Azir, Akali, and Ryze are finally getting the special attention they deserve, with all three receiving a balancing update. While this measure will make LoL matches more engaging for both casual players and pro competitors, no one will be happier with the mid-laner buffs than T1 Faker.

Old God Mordekaiser

In Patch 14.8, Riot Games is addressing a longstanding issue with one of League of Legends’ oldest champions and introducing a couple of exciting new features. The biggest and most impactful change that fans have been asking for is the adjustment to Mordekaiser's ultimate ability, Realm of Death, which is eliminating its interaction with Quicksilver Sash entirely. Lead League gameplay designer Matt "Phroxzon" Leung-Harrison explains that this change aims to boost Mordekaiser's effectiveness, particularly in higher ranks and professional play.

Starting April 17, Mordekaiser will return as the dueling god of LoL, and once he casts his ultimate, there will be no escape.

The update also marks the return of the Blood Moon skin line, featuring revamped designs for Zed, Zyra, and Fiddlesticks. For a while now, fans have been requesting the addition of more champions to the collection, making this one of the best-selling skin lines in League of Legends. Blood Moon Fiddlesticks in particular is a big crowd-pleaser, while Blood Moon Zed has garnered criticism on r/LeagueofLegends due to its similarity to every other Zed skin.

As Patch 14.8 approaches, AD carry players will need to prepare to adapt to the new meta, as Jhin, Thresh, and Mordekaiser will all take back their spotlight.
