After Apex Legends, Respawn Will Develop Star Wars: Mandalorian Game

Big news, gamers! The wizards at Respawn, the brains behind Apex Legends and Titanfall, are cooking up a Star Wars Mandalorian game. Yup, you heard it right.

Apex Legends Valkyrie

Respawn’s biggest title so far, Apex Legends, is a free-to-play battle royale-hero shooter, and it’s the biggest one in the market. Created by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, this bad boy landed on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in February 2019, spread its wings to Nintendo Switch in March 2021, and then soared onto PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022. Oh, and let's not forget the pocket-sized version—Apex Legends Mobile—dropped in May 2022 for Android and iOS, allowing players to battle anywhere.

In this particular battle royale, you squad up before the chaos begins, either in pairs or trios, picking your favorite Legend—that's code for characters with killer abilities—and choosing one of the incredible game modes. First, the classic "Battle Royale," where up to 20 squads (or 30 duos) hit the island, gear up, boost their shields and skills, and try not to get zapped out of the shrinking play area. The last team standing grabs the crown. Then, we've got "Arenas," a 3v3 deathmatch showdown. Bag at least 3 points, be 2 points ahead, and victory is yours.

But wait, there's more! This adrenaline-packed universe shares its sci-fi vibes with Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall series. You'll catch glimpses of Titanfall affecting the story behind some playable Legends.

Respawn began developing this game in 2016, and after boosting their development team, eventually the game started to take shape. Apex Legends stayed under wraps until its surprise release in 2019. Critics went wild for its gameplay, sweet progression system, and genius mix of different genres. It wasn't just a game; it was a worthy rival to other battle royales. The numbers don't lie: 25 million players within a week, 50 million within a month, and a jaw-dropping 100 million by April 2021. Talk about conquering the gaming universe!

Now, Respawn gets to do it all over again, but with an IP that’s already huge! Recent leaks revealed an upcoming Star Wars game set in the Mandalorian world and developed by Respawn. Brace yourself for a first-person shooter where you step into the boots of a Mandalorian bounty hunter, living your best life during the Galactic Empire era.

It's not confirmed if you'll be playing as Din Djarin from the Disney hit series. The game's timeline, set during the Galactic Empire's reign, might deny us the chance of a Baby Yoda cameo. Bummer.

Now, let's talk gameplay. The buzz is that it won't be your typical open-world gig. Nope, linear levels are the name of the game. Respawn's focus? Making you feel like a Mandalorian headhunter with killer "mobility" and "style." From jetpack cruising, horizontal dashing, and vertical jumps, to boost sliding that'll remind you of Apex Legends hill maneuvers, we’ll have it all.

Load up on the Mandalorian arsenal: wrist rockets, a grapple hook, and a slick visor for tagging enemies and bounties. This game is all about speed—zipping around to get the bounty. Get ready to channel your inner Mandalorian and get your hands on all the credits you can! This is the way!
