Esports World Cup Announces Apex Legends is Joining the Event
The Apex Games are taking the spotlight on the biggest stage in the gaming world! According to an official announcement from the EWC, Apex Legends just got the golden ticket to join the Esports World Cup lineup this summer! This battle royale sensation is the newest addition to the lineup for this massive gaming showdown happening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. If the motivation of competing on a world-class stage wasn’t enough, there’s a total of $45 million boosting the event’s final prize pool, which any gamer would be happy to get their hands on.
The EWC Foundation made an official announcement online, revealing that Apex Legends is game number 19 to grace the stage at the inaugural Esports World Cup. This event marks the first-ever Esports World Cup, which has emerged from the Gamers8 cocoon to become the biggest Esports festival in the world.
The EWC will see several pro-gaming teams compete in tournaments dedicated to each game, and if they're a big-time business with teams in multiple titles, the organization will be eligible to stack multiple prizes and boost their total earnings at the event. Some famous squads like Fnatic, Gen.G, and NAVI are serious contenders in several games beyond Apex Legends. Ralf Reichert, the main man behind the Esports World Cup Foundation, had this to say about welcoming Apex Legends and other fresh faces to the party: |
“When we started working on the Esports World Cup and announced it last fall, we promised to bring the community all the best games.
This final batch of titles concludes this promise. We are incredibly excited and thankful to all the Publishers and Game Developers making this dream lineup a reality. Uniting and showcasing the power of esports and the esports community becomes the reality. Billions of players across the world play these games, and we can’t wait to bring all of those vibrant fan communities together in Riyadh this summer.“
The Esports World Cup is showcasing an impressive lineup of top-tier esports titles. They've even brought in Riot Games' smash-hit MOBA, League of Legends.
But here's the drama—it's been four years since the whole LEC and NEOM scandal, where Saudi money caused a major controversy due to human rights concerns. The controversy infuriated both fans and players, resulting in the cancellation of the sponsorship. Fast forward to 2024, and with the esports scene feeling the pinch financially, the uproar over Saudi-backed events seems to have fizzled out a bit. League of Legends boosting the EWC roster hasn't caused quite as much commotion as the NEOM fiasco back in 2020. |
The full lineup for the Esports World Cup 2024 in Saudi Arabia includes: Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, EAFC, Apex Legends, Fortnite, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, League of Legends, Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Overwatch 2, PUBG, PUBG Mobile, Rainbow Six, Rocket League, RENNSPORT, StarCraft II, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics, and TEKKEN 8.
Regardless of the kind of games you like to play, the EWC has something you’ll enjoy watching!
