Apex Legends Fans are Not Happy with the Final Fantasy "Aerith" Skin

Alright, Legends, we've got some drama on the horizon, pun intended, as the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover is catching flak for a less-than-stellar "Aerith" skin for Horizon. The hype was real when this crossover was dropped during the Game Awards 2023, and everyone was eager to boost their skin collection with a Final Fantasy-themed skin, but early glimpses of the "Aerith" skin have left fans disappointed at the lack of effort and accuracy from Respawn’s skin team.

Apex X FFVII Disappointment

As the official images of the Apex Legends X Final Fantasy crossover cosmetics hit the web, fans were quick to express their rage on social media.

Apex Legends Final Fantasy leak

Respawn assigned the character "Aerith" from Final Fantasy 7, known for her elf-like appearance, to Horizon in Apex Legends. However, instead of excitement, the community is feeling let down by the uncanny and, quite frankly, scary aesthetic Respawn gave her.

The polls are in, and it’s not looking good, with players claiming that the Horizon version of "Aerith" looks like it's been through 40 years of heavy substance abuse.

The elf-like charm of the original character seems lost, replaced by what redditors described as a disfigured, unrecognizable face. Horizon is not unpopular at all, and, let’s be honest, Aerith might be the most popular Final Fantasy ever, but even Horizon mains are looking away after the skin reveal.

A few people in the comments didn't hold back, calling the redesigned apparel "hideous." The Apex Legends X Final Fantasy event announcement during the Game Awards 2023 gave player expectations a huge boost, especially with the revelation that the new content is scheduled to release on January 9, 2023. However, the community is bracing for a letdown now that they saw what's coming.

Apex Legends X Final Fantasy Backlash

The backlash is real, and players are worried about the fate of other future events and their respective cosmetics. Some even doubted that Respawn could pull off an Apex Legends X Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover. This isn't the first time Apex fans have voiced concerns about the effort (or lack of effort) put into game content by Respawn Entertainment, and we’ve all seen the memes about EA crashing and burning.

Many players are begging Respawn Entertainment to reconsider these crossovers if they can't get them right, or even to delay the event until they can dedicate some time to boosting the quality of the content before they release it.

Aerith holds a special place in the hearts of Final Fantasy 7 fans, and a poorly designed representation in Apex Legends is a deal-breaker for both communities.

Apex Legends Final Fantasy Store

In the center of this uproar is Respawn Entertainment, and we’re all waiting to see how they'll react to the feedback from the Apex Legends community. Hopefully, as Final Fantasy fans themselves, they’ll do Aerith justice.
