Valorant Player caught cheating in the China National Competition
The Valorant China National Competition Season 1, a LAN event boasting a tier-three status and a huge prize pool of approximately US$70,000, closed with a match for the ages, but the spotlight was stolen by a scandal like Valorant Competitive Esports has never seen.
The tournament organizers permanently banned a pro-player for using cheats to boost his in-game performance. This incident has taken over the Valorant community in China, which is now raising questions about the integrity of the Valorant competitive scene.
The player in question hails from the CHI66 team and goes by the alias "发发." Immediately after the end of the tournament, the VALORANT account on Weibo made an official announcement confirming the outcome of their investigation, revealing that he had been cheating. The investigation confirmed that 发发 had used hardware peripherals to cheat during the semi-finals, which didn't prevent CHI66's defeat against Team Rainy. While everyone shares the opinion that you should never cheat in Esports, it is oddly satisfying that CHI66 ended up losing the match anyway.
In response to the cheating revelations, 发发 has been handed a severe penalty—a lifetime ban from participating in any future official competitions or any official Valorant-related activities. Furthermore, CHI66's status as semi-finalists has been revoked due to the disqualification caused by the cheating incident.
According to the investigation, the remaining members of CHI66 had no idea 发发was using anything illegal to boost his performance. According to the official statement from the team, his squad mates proactively informed the referee team about their teammate and fully cooperated with the organizers of the event during the investigation. As a result, the team did not receive any penalties.
Despite 发发's relatively low profile in the VALORANT scene, this incident has generated a lot of attention within the Chinese VALORANT community. The offline nature of the event in Nanjing, coupled with a substantial prize pool of CN¥500,000 (more or less US$70,000), just ended up boosting the impact of the scandal. The VALORANT China National Competition Season 1 marked its first season ever, with players qualifying from collegiate participation, regional qualifiers, and in-game qualifications. |
Peng "PPQueen" Jiacheng, a standout player with a noteworthy history in Valorant, participated in the event. Having previously competed with Totoro Gaming in VALORANT's first year, PPQueen was the superstar in this competition. In contrast, the player involved in the cheating incident remains anonymous, with limited information available and no prior involvement in the higher tiers of VALORANT's competitive play before this tournament.
The VALORANT China National Competition Season 1, intended to showcase the skills and quality of Chinese Valorant players, has been stained by this cheater. However, the Valorant community knows that this is an isolated case, and their trust won’t be shaken by it, especially after the cheater got caught so quickly and effectively.
Cheaters will cheat, but this scandal only goes to show that crime doesn’t pay and that no amount of cheating will win you a tournament against real pros!
