VALORANT Phoenix Guide: How to Play Phoenix Like a Pro

Learning how to play Phoenix, one of the five Valorant agents automatically unlocked for new players, will boost your Valorant rank quickly and without much investment. Phoenix is a duelist with abilities that are super easy to get the hang of, especially if you're familiar with FPS games. We’re going to break down his skills, give you some essential tips, and cover his strengths and weaknesses. Ready? Let’s go!

Phoenix's Skills

C – Blaze

Phoenix creates a wall of fire that blocks vision. This wall heals Phoenix when he passes through it, but it harms other agents, friends, or foes. It costs 200 credits, and you can buy it once per round.

Q – Curveball

This ability allows Phoenix to throw a flash that curves either left or right (left click for left, right click for right). When the flash pops, anyone who looks at it is blinded. It costs 250 Valorant credits, and you can buy two per round.

E – Hot Hands

Phoenix throws a fireball that burns the ground. Standing on it heals Phoenix but damages others. You get one free use, and it resets after two kills.

X – Run It Back

Phoenix marks his location for 10 seconds. If he dies during this time, he respawns at the marked spot with 100 health. Perfect for aggressive plays.

How to Boost Your Phoenix Gameplay in Valorant

Blaze: Hold down C to curve the wall slightly. This is great for blocking vision from multiple angles as you push.

Curveball: Flash from a distance to reduce the enemy's reaction time. This is especially important when peeking around corners.

Korean Flash: Instead of flashing towards the enemy, throw the flash behind you. This allows you to peek faster, since you only get flashed for a split second while the enemy gets the full effect.

Phoenix Run it Back

Hot Hands: Phoenix’s fireball lands at a consistent distance, matching your movement sound range on the mini-map. Use this to predict where it will land, and plan your healing or zoning accordingly.

Run It Back: Activate this ability from a safe spot to avoid getting killed immediately after respawning. Push hard and clear as many angles as you can while it’s active. When it’s about to expire, throw Hot Hands to block enemy entry points.

Is Phoenix Good in Valorant?

Let's take a look at the main traits that make Phoenix one of the agents you should be playing in Valorant.

Beginner Friendly: Phoenix is straightforward to play. His flash and molotov abilities are similar to those in CS:GO and now in CS2, making him easy to pick up for FPS veterans. Plus, his self-heal and ultimate ability provide a second chance, making him forgiving for beginners.

Free and Versatile: Phoenix is one of two free duelists available from level 1, so even if you’re just starting out in Valorant, you can pick him up. He’s a great alternative to Jett, especially if you want to frag out and climb the ranked ladder solo. He excels on both attack and defense, with abilities that allow him to block vision, heal himself, and disrupt the enemy.

Phoenix Weaknesses and Counters

Run It Back: Phoenix’s ultimate can be predictable. Enemies can hear his footsteps and easily guess his respawn location. Characters like Breach and Brimstone can counter him by using their abilities to kill him a second time.

Sova’s Recon Bolt: Phoenix's Blaze only blocks vision, not bullets. A well-placed Sova recon bolt can reveal your team’s location through the wall, giving enemies a boost.

Astra’s Gravity Well: Phoenix lacks mobility, making him vulnerable to Astra’s Gravity Well, which can displace him and leave him open to attacks.

If you want to watch the best Phoenix players in Valorant, we recommend Subroza and Xtr.

Subroza was one of the first pros to master Phoenix; he used him to carry Team Solomid to the top of the North American Valorant scene. Watching his gameplay can teach you how to make a massive impact with Phoenix.

Known for popularizing the “Korean Flash,” Xtr shares biweekly videos on YouTube with tons of tips and tricks. His high-level play in Immortal rank offers valuable insights into mastering Phoenix.

While Phoenix might not always be the top pick in professional play, he remains a solid choice for solo queue. With the right strategies and practice, you can use Phoenix to climb the ranks and dominate your Valorant matches.
