Teamfight Tactics Patch 15.5: Yuumi, Katarina, and Gangplank Buffs

The second half of Teamfight Tactics Set 15 has officially begun, and Patch 15.5 is here to shake things up. Riot is focusing less on sweeping balance changes and more on refining traits, cleaning up mechanics, and boosting underplayed champions so they can finally shine again.

From long-awaited buffs to fan favorites like Yuumi, Katarina, and Gangplank to big adjustments in Crystal Gambit and Monster Trainer, this update is all about making old favorites relevant while setting up new TFT builds for the meta. Let’s break down the highlights.

Traits: Crystal Gambit and Monster Trainer Reworked

Crystal Gambit continues to evolve as Riot experiments with one of TFT’s most ambitious economy traits. This patch adjusts reward thresholds and tuning, making the climb feel more rewarding without being overwhelming. Reward values and scaling have been smoothed out, and the trait’s kill thresholds are now easier to hit, offering a more consistent experience for players who want to gamble with their gold.

Meanwhile, Monster Trainer loses its Level Up mechanic entirely. Lulu and her crew can now be played instantly without awkward delays, and monsters no longer gain scaling stats over time. This change should simplify the trait while keeping it viable.

Champion Buffs: Big Names Are Back

The spotlight of TFT Patch 15.5 belongs to three champions: Yuumi, Katarina, and Gangplank.

  • Gangplank gets a light boost to his attack speed, making him more reliable in early-game skirmishes.
  • Katarina’s ability damage rises slightly, giving her assassinations more bite.
  • Yuumi receives the most noticeable adjustments, with tweaks to her attack speed and damage, alongside resource tuning that makes her spellcasting smoother. Riot is carefully trying to restore her power without letting her dominate the ranked ladder again.

Other notable changes include Ahri’s spell buffs, Rammus gaining more tankiness, and Kog’Maw’s kit being reworked as part of the Monster Trainer overhaul. Smolder also gets more offensive power, with innate armor reduction baked into his abilities.

Four and Five-Cost Shifts

High-cost units aren’t left out of the action. Akali, Ashe, and Volibear all gain offensive buffs that should help them scale into late-game comps. Yuumi, in particular, stands out as a potential carry again, though with toned-down True Damage so she doesn’t spiral out of control.

At the top of the cost curve, Braum and Seraphine are rewarded with stat and utility buffs, making them more attractive late-game anchors. Braum’s AoE damage is higher, while Seraphine gives teams stronger resist and health bonuses through her Friendship trait.

Items and Augments: Sharper Power Curves

Item balance is also being cleaned up. Quicksilver now grants more attack speed, and Titan’s Resolve shifts its identity from a defensive option to a more offensive tool with new damage amplification at max stacks. Radiant versions of these items are also adjusted, helping them scale more reliably into late-game fights.

On the augment side, several underpicked options like Bastion Crest, Juggernaut Crown, and Tiniest Titan are being removed. By trimming the pool, Riot ensures that players see augments they actually want to draft, boosting overall game flow and variety.

Esports and Meta Impact

Patch 15.5 is less about nerfs and more about setting up new comps to rise. The Yuumi Prodigy comp, which averaged a middling 4.5 placement last patch, is expected to climb higher with her series of buffs. Star Guardian and Sorcerer comps may also look to Ahri as a primary carry option again, giving TFT’s ranked ladder more diversity at the top.

With Crystal Gambit stabilized, Monster Trainer simplified, and big-name champions getting fresh power, the patch feels designed to keep the Teamfight Tactics meta healthy without breaking its balance. Expect to see pros experiment quickly, especially with Yuumi’s return to relevance.

Final Thoughts

Patch 15.5 doesn’t reinvent the game, but it carefully polishes key pain points while boosting champions and traits that were slipping behind. If you’re looking to climb the TFT ranked ladder, now’s the perfect time to try out Katarina, Gangplank, or Yuumi once more, because with the right comp, they might just carry you to a higher rank.
