The official trailer for the upcoming game The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story by Riot Forge and Digital Sun has been made public.
Riot Forge exhibited unusual silence in 2022, but at the beginning of 2023, there was a flood of news. After the huge success of "The Ruined King", fans couldn't wait for new releases. All new games are exciting, but those that add to the history of Runeterra are the best, and The Mageseeker is sure to be packed with lore.
The 2D pixel-action Role Playing Game (RPG) is coming sooner than we thought, and it promises to bring us back to Runeterra's immersive story just like the previous games did. The star of the show will be Sylas, the "Kingslayer", so we're sure that Demacia will be heavily featured in this game, which means we'll get a whole new world with fresh lore to dive into and tons of answers to all the questions that we have saved up about Jarvan's domains. Freljord is sure to be featured as well, if Legends of Runeterra is accurate about its lore, so we can expect Queen Ashe to get a popularity boost in a spinoff game for the first time since TFT!
Sylas of Dregbourne, born to a family that supported the anti-magic laws of Demacia, was given to the Mageseekers (officers who hunt magic users), who made use of his very unique skills. The boy would be boosting the ranks of the militiary police force as he was able to detect magic and identify mages just by looking at them.
Over time, however, he noticed that the poor would be considered "afflicted" with magic while the rich and powerful would be let go unharmed. Doubt grew in his mind, and as time went by, he eventually broke. While trying to defend a child from a mageseeker, he accidentally touched her, causing his unique ability to react and a surge of energy to be released from him. Before he knew it, it was over, he had killed three people, his Mageseeker mentor included.
He was quickly arrested for fifteen years, and throughout the years he received many visits from Luxanna (who we know as Lux), where she would teach him about the world outside. Being a magic user herself, a fact that Sylas quickly realized, she lamented his imprisonment. He used her feelings to control her and find out hidden information about Petricite, which was used to stop magic. On the day he was to be executed, he was able to escape by touching Lux and using her powers.
He became a symbol of revolution, gathered a large crowd of supporters, and marched towards Freljord, ready to build an army to attack Demacia and end the Mageseekers' tiranny once and for all.
Riot Forge has unveiled the brand-new trailer for Digital Sun's game last week. Many assumed that since the big hit from Digital Sun was a Rogue-like, this would be a Rogue-like as well; however, it is actually a 2D pixel action RPG, which is much better suited to telling a story.
Riot Forge and Digital Sun will take us to the northern continent of Demacia, where we'll play the part of Sylas as he tries to get away from the Mageseekers and escape the magical prisons of Demacia. This looks like a very intriguing story that will hopefully go deeper than the cinematic "Warriors" of the 2020 Season.
Multiple consoles and computers will be able to play the game when it launches on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S. This means that the game can be enjoyed by gamers of all spheres.
We're excited to see the release of a third game from Riot Forge, and they have more games in the works. The Zaun-based video game Convergence is scheduled for release in the summer of 2023, while the Freljord-based game, A Song of Nunu, will be released in the fall of this year.
