Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – Day 8: NRG Break the LCS Worlds Curse
Day 8 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage shocked the world as the LCS vs. LEC classic blew the roof off of the arena and the legendary T1 fought for survival.
G2 vs. NRG
Game 1
In the first match of the day, the LCS squad had an amazing early game setup and wasted no time in capitalising on their advantage. Although G2 had a storied history of triumphs against some of the most powerful LCK and LPL teams, NRG proved to be a different beast altogether. Despite the LCS having a very challenging year, NRG, the first seed from North America, showcased their ability to thrive under fire by relentlessly dismantling G2 in every lane.
Palafox, playing Neeko mid for NRG, outplayed the legendary Caps on multiple occasions, boosting his team’s engage to 100 and creating perfect engages time and time again. NRG’s objective control was on point as they rolled over G2 in a display of sheer dominance.
Game 2
The second game was a replay of NRG's relentless control from the very beginning.
Contractz, jungling as Jarvan IV, delivered some of the most unexpected and amazing plays of the series. The LEC champions, one by one, fell to NRG as the LCS champions synched up like a Swiss watch. In a repeat of the first game, NRG secured every Drake buff and Soul, alongside the Baron buff, paving the way to a resounding victory that propelled them into the Knockouts stage of Worlds 2023. |
T1 vs. BLG
Game 1
The legendary T1 roster came into the first match with the same rage boost that they had the day before, setting their sights on BLG. However, the LPL's 2nd seed weren't willing to cut Faker and his team any slack. T1's support, Keria, without a doubt the scariest player in the competitive scene, did not disappoint, selecting Tahm Kench and repeatedly bulldozing BLG’s squad. T1's long-range strategy hinged on Keria's tanking, and he executed his role so well that even Bin's Renekton couldn't stop him on a 1v1.
In short, T1 unleashed a storm of destruction, securing a quick and decisive victory.
Game 2
The second match saw Keria hungry for more, opting once again for Tahm, much to BLG's dismay. However, BLG were ready for their just desserts. XUN relentlessly ganked the mid-lane, and Bin took out Zeus in the top-lane not once but twice. It appeared that BLG had control of the game until Keria started taking names and making plays.
At this point, T1 was firmly in control of the game’s flow, and a consistently well-positioned Gumayusi, as Jinx, delivered a masterclass performance, schooling BLG. By this point, it seemed like T1 was invincible, regardless of the circumstances. The Korean dream team methodically demolished each lane's turrets, capitalised on a Drake-soul point, and effortlessly laid siege to the base with Gumayusi's immense damage output.
Our MVP for day 8 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage is NRG Contractz.
