Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – Day 7: Time to tryhard or go home!

Day 7 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage delivered one of the most one-sided and one of the most balanced matches of the tournament. Let's dive into the thrilling action:

DK vs. GAM

Game 1

The Vietnamese underdogs, GAM, had shown their resilience to reach this stage, but facing off against the powerhouse of former World Champions, DK, with Deft, Showmaker, and Canyon on their roster, was an entirely different beast. Right from the start, DK sought to establish their dominance, systematically dismantling GAM in every lane. Their individual mechanics and experience shone through.

In an astonishing display, Canyon single-handedly held off the entire GAM squad while DK, powered up by the Baron buff, brought the game to a swift end in just 26 minutes.

Game 2

DK's determination was palpable as they entered the second game with an unwavering drive. They wasted no time and dove headfirst into GAM, overwhelming their opponents.

DK Showmaker

Showmaker bared his teeth and showed that he never takes it slow by methodically stripping GAM of every advantage, even securing a quadra-kill in a seemingly lost battle.

Once again, at the 23-minute mark, DK seized the Baron buff and immediately followed up with the Infernal Drake Soul. With this significant power boost, DK surged into GAM's base, demolishing turrets and the nexus in the blink of an eye.

GAM, the underdogs who captured our hearts, bid farewell, while DK advanced to the 2-2 bracket.

KT vs. LNG

Game 1

The 2-1 bracket match promised a clash of titans between the third seeds from the LCK and LPL, and it did not disappoint. Action aficionados were in for a treat as both teams constantly clashed, with a remarkable Drake steal by KT's Aiming and Cuzz. Teamfight supremacy seemed to shift back and forth, but a cunning Baron capture by LNG tipped the scales in favour of the LPL third seed.

A breathtaking engage by KT seemed like it could seal the deal, but BDD trapped all five members of the Korean squad in Neeko's ultimate. Another Baron boosting the LPL team, a final push concluded the game after a gruelling 35 minutes, with LNG emerging victorious.

Game 2

Once again, a fast-paced, action-packed match unfolded, with KT taking an early lead. This time, there were no buff steals, as KT's Cuzz expertly secured the Baron and engaged LNG, while Aiming unleashed havoc upon the Chinese squad.

LNG found themselves in an unfamiliar situation, facing an 11,000 gold disadvantage. Aiming's unconventional on-hit AP hybrid Kai'Sa build, complete with a Rabaddon's Deathcap, spelled doom for LNG. With BDD consistently disrupting LNG, the AD carry effortlessly dismantled the Chinese squad, securing the win for KT.

Game 3

The third game belonged entirely to LNG. Zika, embodying Renekton, transformed into an unkillable raid boss, and Tarzan on Wukong outshone Cuzz. A history-making Baron capture before the 21-minute mark gave LNG a vital stat boost, establishing them as the dominant force in the series.

KT gave it their all, but at 46,000 gold in just 23 minutes, LNG held an insurmountable lead. They denied KT any chances to react, marching onward to the quarterfinals, while KT Rolster had only one more shot at survival in Worlds.

Our MVP for Day 7 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage is DK Showmaker!

Time to give a standing ovation to GAM Esports as they exit the tournament not as losers but as heroes! Stay tuned to find out who is moving on to the Knockout stage.
