Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – Day 6: Can the LEC keep the dream alive?

Day 6 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage delivered some of the most balanced matches we’ve seen so far. What a showdown! Here's a recap of the heart-pounding action.

C9 vs. FNC

Game 1

In the opening game, C9's Fudge, wielding Rumble in the Top Lane, set the stage ablaze with a fiery performance. By the end of the laning phase, Fudge was already scoring an impressive 8/1/4, boosting his squad to a state where Cloud 9 seem nearly invincible. However, Fnatic pulled off a jaw-dropping Baron buff steal, holding off the game's just a bit longer.

FNC fought valiantly, but at the 40-minute mark, with a score of 27-7, Emenes initiated the perfect engage, and C9 emerged victorious, dealing a staggering blow to the LEC's second seed.

Game 2

The second match of the day offered a more balanced skirmish. Both teams claimed early kills and turret plates. Each engage led to a counter-engage, with both sides building up their game plan in perfect sync. The tide shifted when Fnatic secured a crucial Baron buff at 22 minutes.

A pivotal teamfight in the top lane saw Humanoid and Noah dismantling C9's squad, propelling Fnatic to a hard-fought win.

Game 3

Game 1 was getting a re-run, or so it seemed, as C9 started with a boost once more. Fnatic, however, refused to yield and slowly reversed their fortune with strategic picks across the map.

Back-and-forth teamfights filled the game, but the late game often determines the victor. Fnatic clinched both a Drake Soul and a Baron buff at 27 minutes, establishing a commanding lead. A kill on C9's mid-laner and the Elder Drake sealed the deal, as Fnatic methodically dismantled Cloud9's base, securing the 2-2 and sending Cloud9 home.

MAD vs. WBG

Game 1

MAD Lions, the LEC's third seed, aspired to shine on the world stage, but WBG, the fourth seed from the LPL, proved to be a formidable force.

WBG TheShy

WBG took early control of the match, but their overconfidence was an opportunity MAD eagerly exploited.

Key jungle picks helped MAD recover, granting them a 2000 gold advantage. The seesaw match saw objectives changing hands, with the tide of favor shifting unpredictably.

In a pivotal moment, WBG capitalized on a baron pit battle, eliminating two members of MAD and ultimately securing the win.

Game 2

The early game appeared balanced, but the scoreboard showed a thrilling 3-2 at just 7 minutes. Intense teamfights happened frequently, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Tragically for the LEC squad, Weibo dominated in a Drake-pit skirmish and then secured the Baron, exponentially increasing their gold lead. With an 8000 gold advantage, WBG seemed unbeatable.

Yet, MAD Lions valiantly held off a super-fed Weibo squad, even attempting a surprise engage led by Elyoya. Weibo's superior gold advantage sealed the deal, sending MAD Lions packing.

Our MVP for Day 6 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage is WBG TheShy!

The journey continues for Fnatic and Weibo Gaming, but there’s one more step before the Knockouts stage!
