Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – Day 5: It’s Time to Sink or Swim!

Day 5 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage was amazing! Only two teams can survive. It's time to sink or swim!

TL vs. GAM

Game 1

The opening match saw a relentless tug-of-war. Team Liquid and GAM Esports locked horns in a closely contested bout, yet every crucial teamfight tilted in favor of the Vietnamese underdogs, GAM. Their superior performance in these moments ultimately proved decisive as they overcame the North American representatives, TL.

Game 2

TL displayed exceptional resilience and control right from the beginning of the second match. Pyosik, playing Kindred in the jungle, showcased remarkable promise and repeatedly saved his team in critical moments, boosting the North American’s squads chances. GAM's Levi managed to steal a Baron buff at the 21-minute mark, striving to bridge the gold deficit that had been accumulating.

However, TL seized the opportunity, swiftly regaining the momentum by winning a crucial teamfight right after GAM's Baron heist. This victory catapulted them directly to the enemy Nexus, securing their triumph and leveling the series.

Game 3

GAM demonstrated their strategic prowess in the third game, focusing on critical picks at key moments to keep TL at bay. TL's attempt to steal a Baron buff faltered, and GAM capitalized on this, picking off TL members one by one. With a numerical advantage in teamfights, GAM capitalized on every mistake made by TL. As the game drew to a close, GAM's lead became insurmountable, and they ruthlessly dismantled TL's base, clinching their victory.

With this win, GAM remained in the competition and gathered a huge morale boost, while Team Liquid's journey came to an end.

DK vs. BDS

Game 1

BDS struck first blood as Nuc on LeBlanc and Sheo on Lee Sin caught Showmaker off guard. However, this brief moment of triumph was all BDS could savor in this game. DK, swiftly seized control and began their snowball. Deft, wearing the crown of the world champion in title, dominated the farm game.

A few standout plays from Showmaker were enough to reaffirm DK's superiority over BDS, securing a resounding victory.

Game 2

In the second game, DK set the tone by aggressively denying jungle farm to BDS's Sheo, as Canyon, snatched the first three camps and claimed two early kills. Simultaneously, Deft, wielding Aphelios, showcased his proficiency by delivering a masterclass performance in the bot lane.

DK methodically secured every objective, from the Baron buff to turret after turret. BDS found themselves powerless to do anything but delay the inevitable outcome. DK secured their second win of the series, reaffirming their presence in the tournament, while Team BDS, the Play-Ins surprise, bid farewell.

Our MVP for Day 5 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 is GAM Esports’ Kiaya!
