Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage – Day 4: Faker, Oner, Gumayusi, Keria and Zeus
Day 4 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage divided the teams like Moses divided the Red Sea! Four teams find themselves with another opportunity to advance, while the other four teams have been cast into the lower bracket, where they must now win every single match to secure their place in the Knockouts!
T1 vs. Cloud9
We don’t even know where to start with this one. Everyone knows that Faker’s T1 is a powerhouse and that, as their last year together before disbanding, Faker, Oner, Keria, Gumayusi, and Zeus want to end it big and take one more championship home. But what T1 did to Cloud9 today was something else. The crowd couldn’t even cheer anymore at the massacre as, play-after-play, T1 relentlessly farmed C9 like minions. If there was a match that resembled an Elo Boost, this was it.
The game only lasted 22 minutes and ended at a staggering 15-0, with T1 gathering a total of 48.700 gold and C9 only getting 34.500. T1 Oner, as Jarvan, absolutely dominated the Rift and ended up 7/0/8. Meanwhile, Faker at 0/0/5 merely created the space for his team and walked away, letting them take all the kills; after all, cool guys don’t look at explosions.
If there was any doubt that T1 was here to crush anyone in their way, then it’s gone now.
NRG vs. MAD Lions
The LEC heroes, MAD Lions, started the match with promise, maintaining a lead throughout. Yet, it seemed as if something wasn’t quite right. It was as if NRG knew they would win despite being behind.
To everyone's shock, NRG, the reigning LCS Champions, executed an amazing play, trapping MAD in the Drake Pit while NRG's Palafox swiftly rushed into their base to backdoor the Nexus. In an unexpected twist, NRG clinched the victory, leaving the LEC with an underwhelming defeat.
BLG vs. Fnatic
A clash between the second seeds from the LPL and LEC, this match was lit right from the start, with early skirmishes that initially favored the first ever Worlds Champions, Fnatic. The gold pendulum swung back and forth as BLG and Fnatic gave everything to get the upper hand and that boost right into the Knockout stage.
Experience began to tip the scales as FNC exploited BLG's vulnerabilities, picking off their opponents one by one. BLG managed to engineer a comeback in a couple of teamfights, and it all came down to a decisive push that razed Fnatic's base and secured BLG's victory. Despite the loss, FNC's Oscarinin showcased a masterclass performance on Poppy.
KT vs. WBG
In a classic showdown between LCK and LPL, the match started with a "fiesta" in the bot lane, a 3v3 skirmish that erupted at the 6-minute mark. KT Aiming's display while piloting Kai'Sa left the audience in awe, showcasing some of the most remarkable mechanical prowess witnessed at Worlds 2023.
With a flood of ganks, skirmishes, and sneaky Neeko plays, not to mention a very discreet Baron buff seized within the fog of war, KT Rolster showed that it’s all about information. The Korean 3rd seed taught the world the art of war and even recovered from a teamfight blunder to win the game.
Our MVP for Day 4 of the League of Legends Worlds 2023 Swiss Stage is T1 Oner for his world-class performance on Jarvan IV.
