League of Legends Players Break the Game with Support Item Exploit

League of Legends players have stumbled upon a huge issue in the long roster of support items following the recent tweaks to the World Atlas in Patch 14.2. League of Legends Season 14 has brought with it a wave of changes, not only in the shape of item reworks but also with a boost to jungle camps, the reworked Summoner’s Rift map, and various other aspects, reshaping the dynamic of the game and jump-starting a whole new meta.

Part of this overhaul included adjustments to support items, streamlining the starter item for all support players into the universal World Atlas. This versatile item is gathering all of the effects of its predecessors, allowing supports to share gold by executing enemy minions or engaging in skirmishes with enemy champions, and boosting every playstyle regardless of your champion choice.

However, the support item change at the start of the new season brought new issues as players found ways to exploit the system, leading to a tricky situation around double support items and an excessive gold income for support players. Support mains found out about a loophole where, if you build the support item World Atlas as your second item, eventually evolving into Bloodsong, you get a major advantage over your opponents. This transformation allows you to grant your ADCs a substantial damage boost, causing them to snowball faster than ever and breaking the game's balance.

Furthermore, the support item provided players with the ability to ward, significantly enhancing a team's strategic capabilities in controlling objectives. What was once a utility class limited in scope now wields nearly unlimited team-play potential.

Recognizing the imbalance, Riot Games quickly released a hotfix in Patch 14.2, introducing a rule to reduce the gold granted from minions to all players who purchased the World Atlas. While this rectified the issue of double support items, it inadvertently opened a new can of worms, allowing players to troll their support teammates.

Under the revised rules, players can apply the reduced gold rule to others on their team by merely having the item in their inventory. This mechanic paved the way for some very toxic behavior from trolls, as players with bad intentions could buy the item, steal minion kills, and prevent their teammates from getting the crucial gold income they need to be valuable throughout the game.

Even if the support player chose to sell the item, they would still find restrictions on gaining gold through slaying minions, which means they would be cut off from any way to gather or generate gold. Riot Games has not officially addressed the situation or revealed if they have plans for resolving this issue, leaving the community to speculate on potential fixes in future patches. As players adapt to the new items in League of Legends Season 14, the dynamics of support play will remain unstable, awaiting further adjustments from the developers.
