League of Legends Patch 13.18 - Briar, Street Demons, Nerfs and Buffs
The moment we’re all waiting for, the 2023 World Championship in League of Legends, is drawing near, and the arrival of Patch 13.18 marks the final preparations for this grand event.
This update is laser-focused on shaping the metagame for professional play, with 11 champion adjustments (including five buffs, five nerfs, and one adjustment), along with various item tweaks. While the development team at Riot Games is generally happy with the current state of the game, balance overseer Matt Leung-Harrison hints at the necessity for some "minor adjustments."
Specifically, the patch aims to rein in overpowering picks like Kayn, Jarvan IV, and Tryndamere, who have been boosting teams and dominating the Summoner's Rift. Of course, nerfs are in store for these formidable fighters. Riot is also determined to fine-tune the AD carry metagame, with Stormrazor and the wave-clearing marvel, Statikk Shiv, firmly on their radar. However, it's not all about catering to the professional scene. In a refreshing twist, a brand-new champion is set to make their debut in this update cycle. Meet Briar the Restrained Hunter, who is primed for a grand entrance onto the League of Legends roster. |
As per tradition, the patch doesn't forget about cosmetics, and the introduction of the new Street Demon skins promises to be a visual treat for players.
Curious about when League Patch 13.18 will go live? You won't have to wait much longer, as it's scheduled for release on Wednesday, September 13th.
The rollout will start in Australia around 10 a.m. AEST and gradually extend to major League servers throughout the day. Be prepared for several hours of server downtime once the patch begins staging, with matchmaking disabled across all League queues three hours before the official update goes live.
What you can expect in League Patch 13.18?
Briar's Debut: Briar, the eagerly awaited jungler, is finally making her debut. Riot has been teasing her for some time, and although we’ve already provided a breakdown of her abilities, the League developers are fine-tuning her before her official release. Since she proved to be too big of a boost to any team, Riot made some adjustments on the PBE: her abilities now prioritize monsters better, she heals more through her passive, and her ultimate ability, Certain Death, dispels most crowd control effects.
Reining in the Power: Riot aims to bring several high-impact champions back into the metagame, especially Tryndamere and Jarvan IV. Both received significant buffs in Patch 13.17 that exceeded expectations and now require adjustments. A total of twelve champions will receive changes, with buffs for Irelia, Gwen (with a jungle focus), Kennen, Senna (primarily her critical hit builds), and Thresh. In the nerf department, Jarvan IV, Kayn (red form), Rell, Tryndamere, Zeri, and Xayah are all getting toned down.
Item Adjustments: Several items, primarily favored by AD carries, are under scrutiny in this update. Stormrazor and Statikk Shiv are receiving changes, along with other legendary items like the Spear of Shojin and the Crown of the Shattered Queen.
Street Demon Skins: The latest set of League skins introduces vibrant neon colors, urban art styles, and diverse aesthetics. Brand, Rengar, Neeko, Zyra, and the long-neglected Dr. Mundo are among the champions receiving these eye-catching skins. Dr. Mundo's skin marks the end of his 1,700-day wait for a new look, so if there are any Mundo mains out there, you can finally celebrate!
Essence Skin: This update also includes a new mythic essence skin, Crystalis Motus Taliyah, offering the Stoneweaver an emerald-themed makeover.
League Patch 13.18 is gearing up to be an exciting and transformative update, offering balance adjustments, a new champion, item tweaks, and stunning skins to enhance the League of Legends experience for players around the world.
