Riot is Giving League of Legends Three Seasons in 2025
League of Legends is going to be very different come next year. First things first, dev confirmed that LoL is getting a new update cadence in 2025, with three clear-cut seasons full of new content and gameplay updates. With that in mind, let's dive into what we know so far and what this means for players looking to elevate their experience.
Three Seasons, Three Big ChangesLeague of Legends will shift to three seasons in 2025, and all these are going to come with heavy-hitting updates. With so little information about what this change will actually bring with it, the devs are teasing a big gameplay boosting patch and fresh content for it. Among them will be one that will end the annoyance of feeling a game is lost the very moment the Nexus has fallen-a change bound to make competitive play so much better for so many players. |
Each season will also see out-of-game content, such as progression systems and narrative pieces. In some ways, one could think of those timed events we're very accustomed to, but the promises of game-altering updates along with those additions may signal that we could witness significant evolution in how LoL is played throughout the year.
This huge change also means that players will need to grind the ranks or get an elo-boost service at least three times per year. While this scenario isn't very different from the current state of ranked gameplay in LoL (counting three different ranked splits per season), it will still impact the amount of time players will need to invest in order to guarantee their victorious skin and other season rewards.
Teemo's ASU and Anniversary Plans
As a light respite from all of that, Teemo, LoL's general mascot, who often finds himself right in the middle of controversy, is sure to treat fans. Teemo will receive an Art and Sustainability Update, or ASU, with Patch 14.20. The new visuals will be accompanied by a new theme song for Teemo: skins like Happy Elf and Recon will be available at their current price right before the update.
About League's anniversary celebrations, there feels a much more subdued tone to the announcements leading up to the date compared to the fanfare surrounding the 10-year anniversary. Still, Riot's giving back to the community, with all the proceeds of an upcoming in-game event going to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. A great way to boost your skin collection while funding a good cause. Game Modes: Arena and Swarm |
The devs took the time to review LoL's status quo of new game modes. While Swarm mode won't be sticking, Arena Mode proved to be quite a hit. In 2025, Arena makes its comeback in the lineup of rotating game modes, so players are guaranteed another shot at boosting their skill levels in this fan favorite mode.
What's Next for LoL?
Although the most recent dev update did not break much news, there is much to get excited about with League of Legends. With three new seasons, gameplay improvements, and new content, 2025 shapes up to be quite a promising year for the game. Whether one is an old veteran of LoL or just jumping in, these updates afford one the opportunity to try out new strategies and stay ahead of the pack.
As always, stay tuned for more updates as we continue celebrating the 15th anniversary of the game and onward. Teasers of what Riot may have in store are anyone's guess, but one thing is certain: 2025 will be full of exciting new features, and new opportunities to rank up with the boosting service LoL players need. Stay tuned for more news!
