Emerald rank from League's split 2

The 2023 ranked season has brought a ton of new content to League of Legends.

The debut of two different ranked splits was the biggest, making way for a rank reset midway through the year. As the season reached its halfway point, it's time for us to take a look ahead at LoL Ranked Season 13 Split 2's new features and how you can elo boost your way into the highest ranks starting now!

It seems like it was just yesterday that we were ringing in the new year and starting off season 2023, yet the League of Legends season is already halfway through and the first ranked split has ended.

It's about time we looked at what will change in the second half of the League of Legends season now that the second split of Season 13 has started. You'll learn everything about the adjustments Riot has made and everything you need to know!

As Riot decides to stir the League of Legends pot and reset everyone's elo, they are also adding a couple of new ranked mechanics that should boost the experience for everyone.

If you keep up with League of Legends esports, you likely already know that the League uses a split system. If you're an LEC fan, these are typically referred to as the "Summer Split," "Spring Split," or even the "Winter Split." A "split" is one of the stages in which a competitive, and now ranked, season is divided. Players participate in ranked matches throughout a split to raise their rating and gain special loot like skins, chromas, icons, and even emotes!

Even though the second split will officially work the same way as the first one, a lot will change as a result of the ranked resets, and most of those changes will be for the better, in our opinion. Riot developers should take advantage of the ranked reset to fix problems that have persisted throughout the entire season.

Placements for the second split and the Emerald rank

First of all, you only need five placement matches in order to get a definitive rank in the current split, instead of the usual ten.

The developers claim that this modification was designed with the idea of a mid-season reset in mind. However, as of right now, they also intend to keep the number of placement games at five for the future season.

The addition of a tenth rank will be the biggest modification to League of Legends' ranked gameplay. It will be referred to as the "Emerald" rank and will fall between Platinum and Diamond. This choice was taken to balance League of Legends' unevenly distributed rank order. This means that players who were roughly between Platinum 1 and Diamond 2 can expect to be placed in Emerald instead for the current split.

The rank distribution should be centered around Gold, with Bronze and Silver reflecting below-average/average players and Gold and Platinum being populated by above-average players, based on a statement from Riot Revenancer, Systems Lead for the Riot Motivations initiative.

However, the sizes of those four rankings were far from equal, with Silver being overpopulated. With the second LoL split, the Emerald rank will balance out the distribution. If it can accomplish its goal, League players should now be assigned to their appropriate levels according to their ability level, making their LoL MMR match their rank a lot better.

LoL Promotion Series are being removed.

The promotion series in League of Legends will no longer be required to rank up, which may be the most welcome change of all. This implies that you won't need to play a three-game series and win two of them any longer anytime you are close to achieving your desired rank for the season.

This series has probably annoyed each and every one of us at some point. It used to be quite frustrating to desperately want to rank up while being held down by griefing teammates and not being in control of your own destiny.
