While messing with the PBE's code, YouTuber Vandiril found a lot of unused features that might be coming to League of Legends in the future.
Most people know League of Legends for its draft mode on Summoner's Rift. The 5v5 mode has been the same for a long time. It is the most straightforward way for two teams to compete against each other.
While Riot has said in the past that they do not enforce any meta, the fact that roles can be selected is a clear boost towards the classic five-role meta being unavoidable.
Summoner's Rift has had the same jobs for as long as it has been a mode: one top laner, one jungler, one mid laner, one adc, and one support. Since then, Riot has catered to these roles, and now players can choose which role they want to play while they're in the pre-game lobby.
Recently, the League of Legends community has found something in the Public Beta Environment's code. With a new feature found on the PBE that lets players choose their job and champion before even getting to the champion pick screen, we can assume Riot is doubling down on letting players pick their poison ahead of time.
The League Community found the next rotating game mode hidden in the PBE.
Vandiril, the well-known bug hunter from YouTube, was on the PBE after he used secret game codes to find new lobbies. While experimenting with the PBE, he was able to locate many game types that couldn't be reached through the client but were still present in the code.
There were also new versions of 1v1 ARURF, 28-man Teamfight Tactics, and draft pick. The hidden version of draft pick has a new system that lets players choose their role, champion, and runes right in the pre-game lobby. While bans can't be pre-announced in the lobby yet, this new Draft mode is one step away from ensuring no one is able to hostage another player's champion again.
Some players in the community are worried that if the match finder caters to champion selection too much, players will end up in weird matchups with tons of one-trick-ponies.
In the lobby, players can choose up to two separate champions and roles. In the Favorite Champions menu, they can also choose their skins and runes. Once a match is found, players skip the champion selection step and go straight into the game, using the options they pre-selected in the lobby.
Everyone who loaded into the feature ended up missing Summoner Spells, which suggests that Riot is still developing this feature so that players can use it in the future.
According to Phreak, Jungle is the strongest role.
With the option to choose your role and champion before even being teamed up with other players, the League of Legends queues have become longer than before but more balanced, as players don't have an excuse to troll because someone took their role or champion.
However, Riot will need to address an issue that is causing players to flock to a single role. Phreak, who is one of the most well-known players in the game's community and a big name inside Riot Games, has stated in a patch rundown on YouTube that the Jungler role is 20% stronger than any other role.
It's not clear if the jungle changes will be launched on the live servers, but since jungle has such a big impact on the game, you can expect nerfs to come to the role soon.
