Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, the legendary "Unkillable Demon King" of League of Legends, has been out with an arm injury for the whole month of July.

His injury was reoccurring, but it never took him out for so long, leading fans to speculate if this was the end of his career or if he'd be able to return. According to a statement from T1, LCK fans can rejoice, as the legendary star player is returning to the pro scene!

T1 would meet the last-placed Kwangdong Freecs on August 2, 2023, who have been having a hard time keeping up with their competitors during the LCK Summer Split. T1 made the formal statement right before the game that Faker would be back in his midlane.

There had previously been rumors that Faker would return for the game since his substitute for the month of July, Yoon "Poby" Sung-won, had begun playing for T1 Academy in the LCK CL this week.

Once again, Faker proved that he's still the best, boosting the T1 squad to an easy win as the squad defeated Kwangdong Freecs 2-0. Now it's time for the fans to give it their all as well, since T1 will need a lot of motivation to climb back up the ranks and compete for a position in the 2023 League of Legends World Championship.

In a post-game interview, Faker discussed his injury time, the injury itself, and his opinions on his substitute player, Yoon "Poby" Sung-won.

Despite the T1 losing seven out of the eight games they played without their team captain, Faker had some nice things to say about Poby and the team's efforts. When asked by a reporter what he saw in Poby and the squad from the bench, Faker replied,

Faker commentary on Poby

"I realized that Poby, as a mid laner, also has a lot of strengths on his own. Also, I learned some things about laning in the mid lane from the process of communicating to Poby.

Also, I was able to notice and think about the types of plays that my teammates need from me while watching from the third-person perspective.

Watching Poby actually motivated me."

It will be fascinating to watch how T1 performs now that Faker has taken his rightful place again, as well as how Poby's progress may look in the future. The temporary mid-laner for T1 built a cult following, and a lot of players claim they will start watching the LCK CL only to watch him climb all the way back to the LCK's main league again. Although it seems there's no replacement for Faker, as T1 just couldn't function without him, this experience may end up being a net positive for the team.

Faker is also maintaining his stellar performance with T1. Since the start of the 2022 season, the squad has won 58 of 71 games, losing only 13. With Faker, this record improves to a remarkable 57 wins and six defeats. They did not lose a single match throughout the 2022 Spring Split!

It was evident in their most recent game that Faker was the only focus for Kwangdong Freecs, almost as if he had a bounty on his head, as they focused most of their plays around trying to nuke the "Unkillable Demon King". This also helped the other T1 members play freely and confidently, leading to a clean-cut 2-0 victory.

While T1 is in fifth place in the LCK, you can expect to see them climb to the top ranks of the ladder quickly now that Faker is back!
