The Future of the Essence Emporium

Riot has finally responded to the Reddit topic on the Blue Essence sales after waiting half a year.

The Essence Emporium has been on hold for a while, and there is no indication that it will return any time soon. Riot has finally responded to the Reddit topic on the Blue Essence sales after waiting half a year, but was it the information we were looking for?

The Essence Emporium is a place where League of Legends (LoL) players can trade away their extra blue essence, boosting their chroma collections, and even getting an exclusive skin. However, the emporium's suspension was announced in LoL Patch 12.12, and there has been no further word on the matter, leaving us to wonder if we're ever going to see Urfwick in the shop again.

A Riot Games employee was asked about the Essence Emporium on Reddit and if there was any news regarding the reopening of the sale anytime soon. Regrettably, the solution was not what some gamers had hoped for.

Rioter GalaxySmash added his opinion to the debate over what to do with extra blue essence. When questioned about the emporium, they merely responded,

"There is currently no official update, but that the Essence Emporium has not been forgotten."

Some fans were sad to learn that there won't be anything new to take the emporium's place or that Riot hasn't been able to modernize the sale in any manner to make it return soon, but at least they haven't forgotten about it.

While this isn't exactly the best news, we can always keep farming blue essence via Solo or Duo boost services in ranked, draft, or ARAM, hoping that Riot will soon give us a chance to spend it.

It appears that many Riot teams have been moved around recently as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with important personnel leaving. As a result, it may be some time before we see the next Essence Emporium, or anything similar to it, depending on whether the crew in control of such events is still a thing and if they have time to carry out the project or not.

Recently, we've  seen Riot's focus on League of Legends shift from gameplay and the player base's needs to a more sales-oriented vision. Skin line after skin line, the fun content was replaced by cosmetics. The Essence Emporium represented a way for players to have access to those cosmetics without having to spend actual money.

Riot has improved its communication with players, particularly following the disastrous start to Season 13, but when it comes to the Blue Essence sale, they still need to put out an official statement to inform all fans, including those who were not on Reddit when the reply was posted or don't use it at all.

Developers also brought up Nexus Blitz earlier this year, at the same time that Riot addressed the Season 2023 cinematic. Unfortunately, they said that Nexus Blitz has "no release date" and there is a chance that it won't ever return. On the other hand, it has been announced that a new game mode, a 2v2v2v2 format, will be released in the summer of 2023. Potentially with a ranked queue that you'll be able to get a boost to. This four-team all-out deathmatch will be a competitive format, but it's bringing the spotlight back to the "fun" aspect of the game.

We're hoping this is the first of many changes to renew League's appeal to the casual player base.
