TenZ's Verdict: "Counter-Strike 2 is More Fun than Valorant"

Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo, a top competitor in both CS:GO and Valorant esports, recently shared on a live stream that he finds Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) more enjoyable than Riot Games' Valorant.

Who is TenZ?

TenZ is a standout name in the Valorant scene, currently playing for Sentinels. This Canadian pro has earned a reputation as the "Faker" of Valorant, a nod to his exceptional skill and dominance. His record-breaking performance at the first international tournament still stands, boosting his status as one of the best.

TenZ’s Take on CS2 vs. Valorant

During a recent Twitch stream, TenZ commented on the longstanding debate between CS2 and Valorant. Many players have long compared the two first-person shooter games, frequently switching between their respective esports circuits.

During his live stream, TenZ claimed:

“I think CS2 is more fun for me personally; I like the mechanical aspect of CS, and it felt like every single day you could get better at something mechanically. And that was a really appealing aspect of the game.”

TenZ elaborated, supporting the idea that Counter-Strike 2 offers a more consistent mechanical experience compared to Valorant.

“You get fewer random kills. In my entire time playing CS, grinding up to become a pro player, becoming a pro player, I’ve probably gotten running or jumping headshot less times than a singular game of Valorant in my life.”

It’s a common opinion among Valorant and CS2 boosters and pro-players that Counter-Strike’s mechanics are more realistic overall.

Despite his preference for CS2, TenZ acknowledged that Valorant has its strengths. He pointed out that the gameallows players to be creative with agent abilities and compositions, whereas creativity in Counter-Strike is more focused on strategies like smoke lineups.

TenZ’s Esports Career

TenZ began his esports career in CS:GO in 2017 and joined Cloud9 as a promising young rifler in 2019. In 2020, he transitioned to Valorant and quickly became one of the first professional players in the new esport. With Sentinels, TenZ has claimed two VCT Masters titles and the first ever AfreecaTV champion title, reinforcing his position as a top player in the gaming community.

The clip of TenZ’s comments led to discussions on both CS2 and Valorant’s Reddit pages. His views on the differences between the games resonated with many players.

On the CS2 subreddit, one player noted that the agent system in Valorant can lead to frustration and toxicity, commenting that their preferences are due to the Agent system.

“It feeds into toxicity, and there’s nothing more frustrating than people taking certain agents and not even performing their roles with them. At least with CS2, everyone is able to buy all the utility and swap roles and positions without issue.”

Some Valorant players agreed, acknowledging that while they enjoy the game, Counter-Strike’s movement and gunplay are superior. A player commented:

“This is facts since day one. While I love Valorant, CS movement and gun play is unmatched.”

However, they also noted the huge difference in the number of cheaters in each game. Valorant’s kernel-level anti-cheat gives the game a security boost that has been more effective in reducing cheaters compared to CS2, although it’s not foolproof.

TenZ’s insights reflect the ongoing debate between the two popular FPS games. While he finds CS2 more mechanically rewarding, he appreciates the creative aspects of Valorant. As both communities continue the debate, players like TenZ provide valuable perspectives on what makes each game unique and enjoyable. Whether you’re a fan of CS2’s precision or Valorant’s tactical creativity, both games offer rich experiences for their players.
