Marvel Rivals Cloak and Dagger Guide for Climbing Ranks
In the current meta of Marvel Rivals, playing support (or "Strategist") is rarely just about topping off health bars. It’s about playmaking. While many players gravitate toward straightforward healers, the duo of Cloak & Dagger offers a high-skill ceiling that can single-handedly dictate the flow of a match.
If you are stuck in "ELO hell" and looking to boost your standing, this duo is your answer. They are technically one hero, but they force you to manage two distinct playstyles simultaneously. Mastering the rhythm between light and dark is the fastest way to rank up, but it requires abandoning the passive mindset of a traditional healer.
Here is how to optimize your gameplay, manage your cooldowns, and dominate the lobby.

The Kit: Controlling Space and Time
To understand how to play this character, you have to stop thinking of them as a healer and start thinking of them as a controller who sustains the team. You are working with a solid 250 HP pool and decent mobility (6m/s), but your survival depends entirely on which form you are in.
The Offensive Pivot: Cloak
When you need to secure space or punish a diver, you switch to Cloak.
- The Beam: His primary fire isn't just poke damage; it’s a constant beam dealing 75 damage per second. It has infinite ammo, meaning you can constantly pressure barriers and squishy targets.
- The Kill Zone (Terror Cape): This is your most dangerous tool. Dropping this field deals damage, but more importantly, it blinds enemies and applies a massive 28% damage amplification debuff. If you catch a tank in this, they melt.
- The Escape: Dark Teleportation is your "get out of jail free" card, granting invisibility and a movement boost to you and your team.
The Sustainer: Dagger
Dagger is your anchor. Her primary fire is a unique projectile that heals allies and hurts enemies.
- Ricochet Mechanics: Dagger’s shots bounce. This is crucial for boosting your survivability. You can heal teammates around corners without ever exposing yourself to sniper fire.
- AOE Healing: Between her "Veil of Lightforce" (a deployable healing rune) and "Dagger Storm" (a rapid-fire AOE heal), she excels at keeping a clustered team alive during objective pushes.
The Ultimate: Eternal Bond
This ultimate is misunderstood. Many new players use it to deal damage, but the 30 damage/second to enemies is negligible. The real value is the 250 healing per second it provides to allies. You become untargetable and dash around the map; use this to "paint" the floor with healing trails during overtime to make your team invincible.

Advanced Mechanics to Boost Your Rank
Knowing the abilities is the tutorial; knowing the tech is how you win. There are specific mechanical exploits (techs) with Cloak & Dagger that the game doesn't tell you.
- The "Stance-Swap" Reload
Managing ammo on Dagger can be a chore. However, the game code reloads your weapon instantly when you switch characters. If you empty your clip as Dagger, do not press 'R'. Instead, tap Shift twice (swap to Cloak, then immediately back to Dagger). It is faster than the reload animation and ensures your healing output never drops to zero.
- Cooldown Cycling
This is the biggest secret to boosting your efficiency: Cloak and Dagger have separate cooldown timers. You can throw Dagger’s healing rune, swap to Cloak, and immediately throw his Terror Cape. By rapidly cycling forms, you effectively have double the ability usage of any other hero in Marvel Rivals. You should rarely stay in one form for more than a few seconds.
- The Anti-Dive Defense
When an assassin like Spider-Man or Black Panther dives you, Dagger is vulnerable. The moment you take damage, drop Dagger’s healing field at your feet (for the sustain boost) and instantly swap to Cloak. You now have the healing from Dagger’s rune, plus access to Cloak’s blind and invisibility. This combination makes you incredibly difficult to kill 1v1.
The Best Teammates
To really climb the rank ladder, you need to know who to draft this duo with.
Moon Knight: This is a lore-accurate power couple. The "From Shadow to Light" passive allows you to buff Moon Knight with invisibility, turning him into a terrifying flanker.
Self-Sufficient Tanks: Heroes like Magneto or The Thing are great because they hold zones, allowing you to maximize your AOE healing fields.
A Second Healer: Because you will be busy swapping forms to deal damage, having a Mantis or Adam Warlock to provide burst healing takes the pressure off you.
The Hard Counters
Be careful when facing Captain America. His shield bounce can interrupt your flow and knock you out of your rhythm. Similarly, Iron Fist can output damage faster than Dagger can heal it; if he catches you without your swap cooldown available, you are back to the respawn room.
Finally, watch out for Rocket Raccoon. While not a direct killer, Rocket provides similar utility with much less mechanical effort. If the enemy Rocket is out-healing you, you need to stop trying to out-sustain him and start using Cloak to hunt him down.
Cloak & Dagger are not for the lazy. They require high APM (actions per minute) and constant decision-making. But if you put in the time to master the reload cancel and the cooldown cycle, you will find yourself boosting through the competitive tiers of Marvel Rivals Season 5 with one of the most versatile kits in the game.
