The Winter Express might return to Apex Legends in the near future
It’s the holiday season in Apex Legends, and you know what that means. It’s time for the Winter Express, a hallmark limited-time mode (LTM) in Apex Legends, that has woven itself into the fabric of the gaming community's Christmas traditions. Season 19, with the introduction of Legends like Newcastle and Conduit, promised to boost the Apex Games experience further, sparking excitement about the potential for new strategies and abilities, and now we can try them out on the Winter Express journey!
As the holiday season rapidly approaches, the question on every player's mind is whether the Winter Express will be making a stop in the Apex Games or not.
Is the Winter Express returning in Apex Legends Season 19?
Sadly, the Winter Express will not be active as the primary LTM during Season 19, much to the community’s dissatisfaction. The announcement was made through Twitter, with players expressing their discontent on various social media platforms as a result, complaining about the absence of a holiday tradition that has come to define their gaming experience year after year.
Instead, Apex Legends Season 19 will see the return of the Revenant Uprising LTM, previously available during the Uprising Collection Event.
However, this choice has triggered a wave of skepticism within the player base, as the Revenant Uprising LTM has faced substantial criticism for its perceived monotony and repetitiveness. The decision to replace the beloved Winter Express with a controversial alternative has fueled discussions among gamers, igniting debates over the game's evolving identity and the developers' commitment to meeting player expectations. |
Some players asked for an alternative solution to maintain the essence of Winter Express while accommodating the introduction of new Legends with potentially disruptive abilities. Suggestions range from disabling all Legend abilities within the Winter Express mode to strategically excluding certain Legends that might upset the delicate technical balance of the game while still boosting the season with its traditional “Winter Train." The community's engagement in constructive conversations shows that the Apex Legends community wants this event to return more than enough to compromise.
In response to community concerns, Josh Media, a prominent game developer, acknowledged the potential challenges posed by the introduction of new Legends to the Winter Express concept.
While recognizing the concerns raised by the community, Josh Media emphasized the impact of the newly released Legends on the fundamental mechanics of the Winter Express. The delicate dance between offensive and defensive abilities in Apex Legends poses a unique challenge for developers, particularly in a mode where precision aiming and mechanical skill are not always the most important aspects.
As comments poured in, the developer gave everyone the best answer he could. Despite the technical difficulties for developers, when melding old and new features, he stated that Respawn knows that the community loved the Winter Express and the Three Strikes LTM, so they want to boost these game modes to become compatible with the new aspects and Legends in the game and bring them back eventually. So we are getting our train back, just not this season.
Although we’re not getting our favorite train back this year, Season 20 sounds like a big project full of returning features we all want, and we can barely wait to check it out!
