Changing to Another Server in League of Legends: Complete Guide

If you're itching for a new challenge, moving abroad, or even just looking for a region-locked piece of loot, you might want to switch servers in League of Legends. This step-by-step guide will help you through the process.

Regions divide League of Legends players into servers to manage server load and boost player latency, regardless of their location. The current LoL regions include:

  • North America (NA)
  • Europe West (EUW)
  • Europe Nordic & East (EUNE)
  • Latin America North (LAN)
  • Latin America South (LAS)
  • Brazil (BR)
  • Turkey (TR)
  • Russia (RU)
  • Japan (JP)
  • Oceania (OCE)

There is also a Chinese server (CN), but only players from China can access it. Soon, Riot will release a Middle East server as well.

How to Change the Region or Server in League of Legends

  • Open the Store and Access the Account Tab: Open your League of Legends client the Store and navigate to the "Account" tab.
  • Choose Your Destination: Once you're in the server transfer section, you'll have the option to select the server you want to transfer your account to.
  • Pay with RP: To initiate the server transfer, you'll need to spend Riot Points (RPs). The cost of a server transfer is 2,600 RPs.
  • Complete the Transaction: After confirming your selection and payment, your account will begin the transfer process to the new server.

Keep in mind that the process involves spending real money, as you'll need to purchase RPs to cover the cost of the server transfer. Typically, you'll need to spend around €22 (or your regional equivalent) to acquire the necessary 2,600 RPs for the transfer. It's important to note that this isn't a cheap endeavor, especially if you plan to switch back to your original server in the future. Nonetheless, it remains the most straightforward and quickest method for changing servers in League of Legends.

In League of Legends, switching servers automatically transfers several aspects of your account, including your levels and skins. However, there are a few important things to consider:

League of Legends Map
  • Ranked Results: Your ranked results, including your rank and progress, will not be transferred, but your MMR will. This means you'll need to start fresh on the ranked ladder, beginning with placements. The quickest way to get to your previous rank or above is by getting a LoL Elo Booster to do it for you.
  • Honor Levels, Shop Offers, and Eternal Progress: You will lose your honor levels, any ongoing “your shop” offers, and eternals progress. These aspects of your account will not carry over to the new server.

As for alternative methods of changing regions in League of Legends:

Starting a New Account and Using a VPN: If the cost of a server transfer is prohibitive, you can use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to change your region. By selecting a VPN server in the region you want to play in, you can create a new account on that server. However, this method means starting from scratch with a new account, requiring you to level up and unlock in-game items all over again by yourself or using Elo Boosting services. While it's a cheaper option, it involves more effort and time to rebuild your account. This method is suitable if you're primarily interested in playing against players from other servers and learning from them.
